CHANDIMANDIR : 17 MAY 2024

Indian Army has been at the forefront of nation building and has undertaken a number of military-civic action programmes aimed at “Winning Hearts and Minds” of the people under ‘Operation Sadbhavana’. These programmes are focused at development of remote areas, highlighting advantages of peace and development, and demonstrate the ‘human face’ of the Army. Western Command in its endeavour to reach out to the people of border areas, took initiative to sponsor quality education of 15 young deserving children of UT of J&K.

Five girls and ten boys hailing from low income group from remote villages of J&K have been provided admission in classes 6th to 8th and will continue their education till 12th class at Army Public School, Beas. Their education and boarding facilities are being fully sponsored by the Indian Army.

The highly motivated and energetic children are beginning their journey with an immense opportunity to achieve success in life, on way to be contributing members of the society. One young boy from Jammu District, lost his father early in life and his mother, a widow, is an ASHA worker in an Anganwadi Center. Another girl child is from Saida Village of Kathua district, where her father is a daily wage labourer.

This initiative by Western Command is aimed to offer these young promising children a platform to realize their dreams by providing them quality education and necessary skills for becoming responsible citizens of the country.
The parents of the children have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Indian Army for providing a new lease of life to their children and helping their families through this noble initiative.
