In response to a journalist’s question about changes in the leadership of the Afghan Consulate General in Mashhad, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson stated that any changes must comply with the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.
The spokesperson emphasized that appointing and changing consular staff is the prerogative of the sending government. However, these appointments must be communicated to the receiving government through established procedures, and the staff must obtain approval and visas before commencing their duties.
