Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit Assumes Charge as Vice Chief of the Air Staff; Senior IAF Leader Pays Tribute at National War Memorial

The Indian Air Force (IAF) entered a new chapter in its senior leadership on 1 July 2026 as Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, PVSM, AVSM, VM, VSM, officially assumed the prestigious appointment of Vice Chief of the Air Staff (VCAS). The appointment places one of the Indian Air Force’s most experienced operational leaders in the second-highest position within the service at a time when the IAF continues to accelerate modernization, enhance joint military capabilities, and strengthen India’s overall air power.
Soon after assuming office, Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit paid solemn homage to the nation’s fallen heroes by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial in New Delhi. The tribute reflected the Indian Air Force’s enduring commitment to honouring the brave men and women who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation. He later reviewed an impressive Guard of Honour at Vayu Bhawan, marking the formal commencement of his tenure as Vice Chief of the Air Staff.
Prior to taking over as VCAS, Air Marshal Dixit served as the Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (CISC) to the Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee at Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS). During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in promoting integration among the Army, Navy, and Air Force, strengthening joint operational planning, improving inter-service coordination, and advancing India’s vision of integrated military capability. His experience at HQ IDS has provided him with an in-depth understanding of joint warfare, theatre-level planning, and the evolving strategic security environment.
Throughout his distinguished military career, Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit has held several important operational, command, instructional, and staff appointments. His decades of service have been marked by exceptional leadership, operational excellence, and significant contributions to enhancing the combat capability of the Indian Air Force. His vast experience in strategic planning and joint military operations is expected to further strengthen the Air Force as it prepares for the challenges of future warfare.
The appointment comes at a critical juncture when the Indian Air Force is expanding its operational capabilities through the induction of advanced fighter aircraft, force multipliers, indigenous defence technologies, next-generation missile systems, network-centric warfare capabilities, and integrated air defence architecture. The Vice Chief of the Air Staff plays a central role in force planning, capability development, modernization programmes, operational preparedness, logistics, personnel management, and strategic decision-making.
Air Marshal Dixit’s elevation is also significant in the context of India’s ongoing defence reforms aimed at promoting greater synergy among the three armed services. Having served at the apex level of the Integrated Defence Staff, he brings valuable experience in jointness, interoperability, and integrated military planning, which are increasingly becoming the cornerstone of India’s national defence strategy.
The decorations conferred upon him—Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), Vayu Sena Medal (VM), and Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM)—reflect a career distinguished by outstanding service, operational achievements, professional excellence, and exceptional devotion to duty. These honours symbolize decades of unwavering commitment to the Indian Air Force and the nation.
As Vice Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit is expected to contribute significantly towards enhancing operational readiness, accelerating capability development, strengthening indigenous defence initiatives under Aatmanirbhar Bharat, and preparing the Indian Air Force to effectively meet emerging regional and global security challenges. भारतीय वायुसेना (IAF) के वरिष्ठ नेतृत्व में एक महत्वपूर्ण बदलाव के तहत एयर मार्शल आशुतोष दीक्षित, PVSM, AVSM, VM, VSM ने 1 जुलाई 2026 को आधिकारिक रूप से वाइस चीफ ऑफ एयर स्टाफ (VCAS) का पदभार ग्रहण कर लिया। भारतीय वायुसेना के दूसरे सर्वोच्च पद पर उनकी नियुक्ति ऐसे समय हुई है जब वायुसेना तेजी से आधुनिकीकरण, संयुक्त सैन्य अभियानों, स्वदेशी रक्षा प्रणालियों और भविष्य की युद्धक तैयारियों को नई गति दे रही है।
पदभार ग्रहण करने के तुरंत बाद एयर मार्शल आशुतोष दीक्षित ने नई दिल्ली स्थित राष्ट्रीय युद्ध स्मारक पहुंचकर देश के वीर शहीदों को पुष्पचक्र अर्पित करते हुए श्रद्धांजलि दी। इसके पश्चात उन्होंने वायु भवन में आयोजित भव्य गार्ड ऑफ ऑनर का निरीक्षण किया। यह समारोह भारतीय वायुसेना की गौरवशाली परंपराओं तथा सैन्य नेतृत्व के प्रति सम्मान का प्रतीक रहा।
नई जिम्मेदारी संभालने से पहले एयर मार्शल दीक्षित मुख्यालय एकीकृत रक्षा स्टाफ (HQ IDS) में चीफ ऑफ इंटीग्रेटेड डिफेंस स्टाफ (CISC) टू द चेयरमैन, चीफ्स ऑफ स्टाफ कमेटी के रूप में कार्यरत थे। इस महत्वपूर्ण पद पर रहते हुए उन्होंने थलसेना, नौसेना और वायुसेना के बीच संयुक्त संचालन, रणनीतिक समन्वय, एकीकृत सैन्य योजना तथा त्रि-सेवा सहयोग को मजबूत बनाने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई। आधुनिक युद्ध की बदलती आवश्यकताओं के अनुरूप संयुक्त सैन्य संरचना को सुदृढ़ बनाने में उनका योगदान उल्लेखनीय माना जाता है।
अपने लंबे और गौरवपूर्ण सैन्य करियर के दौरान एयर मार्शल आशुतोष दीक्षित ने अनेक महत्वपूर्ण ऑपरेशनल, कमांड, स्टाफ तथा प्रशिक्षण संबंधी नियुक्तियों पर कार्य किया है। उन्होंने विभिन्न स्तरों पर नेतृत्व करते हुए भारतीय वायुसेना की युद्धक क्षमता, परिचालन दक्षता और रणनीतिक तैयारी को मजबूत बनाने में उल्लेखनीय योगदान दिया है। उनकी व्यापक विशेषज्ञता उन्हें भारतीय वायुसेना के सबसे अनुभवी वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों में शामिल करती है।
वाइस चीफ ऑफ एयर स्टाफ के रूप में अब उनके कंधों पर भारतीय वायुसेना के आधुनिकीकरण, नई सैन्य क्षमताओं के विकास, स्वदेशी रक्षा प्रणालियों के समावेशन, उन्नत लड़ाकू विमानों, नेटवर्क आधारित युद्ध प्रणाली, मिसाइल क्षमता, वायु रक्षा तंत्र, मानव संसाधन प्रबंधन तथा भविष्य की परिचालन तैयारियों को दिशा देने जैसी महत्वपूर्ण जिम्मेदारियां होंगी।
उनकी नियुक्ति ऐसे समय हुई है जब भारत अपनी रक्षा संरचना में व्यापक सुधारों के माध्यम से तीनों सेनाओं के बीच बेहतर समन्वय और संयुक्त युद्ध क्षमता विकसित करने पर विशेष ध्यान दे रहा है। HQ IDS में उनके अनुभव के कारण उन्हें संयुक्त सैन्य संचालन, थिएटर आधारित योजना, सामरिक समन्वय और राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा ढांचे की गहरी समझ प्राप्त है, जिसका लाभ भारतीय वायुसेना को उनके नए कार्यकाल में मिलेगा।
एयर मार्शल आशुतोष दीक्षित को उनके उत्कृष्ट सैन्य योगदान के लिए परम विशिष्ट सेवा पदक (PVSM), अति विशिष्ट सेवा पदक (AVSM), वायु सेना पदक (VM) और विशिष्ट सेवा पदक (VSM) जैसे प्रतिष्ठित अलंकरणों से सम्मानित किया जा चुका है। ये सम्मान उनके उत्कृष्ट नेतृत्व, असाधारण पेशेवर क्षमता, परिचालन उपलब्धियों और राष्ट्र सेवा के प्रति अटूट समर्पण के प्रतीक हैं।
भारतीय वायुसेना के वाइस चीफ ऑफ एयर स्टाफ के रूप में उनका कार्यकाल देश की वायु शक्ति को और अधिक आधुनिक, आत्मनिर्भर, तकनीकी रूप से सक्षम तथा भविष्य की चुनौतियों के अनुरूप तैयार करने की दिशा में महत्वपूर्ण माना जा रहा है। उनके नेतृत्व में वायुसेना से परिचालन क्षमता, संयुक्त सैन्य समन्वय और आत्मनिर्भर भारत के तहत स्वदेशी रक्षा कार्यक्रमों को और अधिक गति मिलने की उम्मीद है।
