ARMY COMMANDER SOUTH WESTERN COMMAND REVIEWS FORWARD AREA PREPAREDNESS

Lt Gen Manjinder Singh’s powerful message from the frontlines – Readiness, Resolve, and Respect for Every Soldier

Jaipur, 18 June 2025:
In a powerful show of leadership and commitment to national defence, Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of the South Western Command, undertook a critical two-day visit to the forward military stations of Fazilka, Abohar, and Faridkot on 17 and 18 June 2025. This visit wasn’t merely ceremonial—it was deeply strategic and symbolic, reflecting the Army’s continuous endeavour to stay combat-ready, technologically agile, and morally grounded in the service of the nation.

The military stations he visited are not just ordinary cantonments—they are sentinel bastions guarding India’s vulnerable frontiers in Punjab, facing an ever-watchful adversary across the international border. These regions have witnessed tension, infiltration attempts, narco-terrorism challenges, and drone threats in recent months. Against this backdrop, the Army Commander’s visit held far-reaching operational and motivational significance.

Operational Reviews: Leadership that listens, learns, and leads

Lt Gen Manjinder Singh was given detailed operational briefings by the commanding officers of all three stations. These briefings included situation reports on troop deployment, border management, latest inputs on enemy activity, recent infiltration attempts, and readiness of Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs). He was also apprised about the integration of surveillance technologies, including anti-drone systems, thermal imaging platforms, and night ops sensors.

During these high-level sessions, Lt Gen Singh assessed the response readiness of battalions, their logistics preparedness, ammunition stocking, and contingency war-gaming modules being actively practiced. Special emphasis was laid on inter-agency coordination, with BSF and Punjab Police, and joint tactical drills with IAF, which are now routine in the South Western Theatre.

The Army Commander was seen personally evaluating troop deployment maps, border fencing efficiency, and response timelines in case of a cross-border strike or infiltration. His sharp questions and grounded observations reflected not just military mastery, but a deep commitment to every jawan’s security and morale.

Dialogue with Soldiers: A morale booster wrapped in humility and respect

One of the most powerful moments of the visit was Lt Gen Manjinder Singh’s direct interaction with soldiers across all ranks, in a series of informal and candid exchanges. Unlike typical hierarchical interactions, he chose to sit among the troops, spoke in simple yet inspiring language, and shared stories of valour, discipline, and sacrifice that define the Indian Army’s DNA.

He praised the soldiers for their exceptional professionalism, iron-clad discipline, and ever-readiness to serve under the harshest of conditions. Special mention was made of their gallant contributions during Operation Sindoor, where South Western Command’s brigades had played a key role in rapid response, anti-infiltration sweeps, and battlefield coordination with air assets. He called them the “spine of India’s western defence,” and the “unsung heroes behind every silent victory”.

He didn’t just thank them—he listened to their concerns, from infrastructure issues to family welfare, showing that leadership in the Indian Army means empathy before authority.

Focus on Infrastructure: Where firepower meets future-readiness

The Commander’s tour of the cantonments revealed the Army’s ongoing mission to upgrade infrastructure with modern standards. He inspected new family quarters, upgraded mess facilities, modular training centres, and logistics complexes designed to ensure efficiency, durability, and comfort.

Lt Gen Singh stressed that combat capability is not just about weapons or drills, but also about troop comfort, mental health, and logistical ease. He reviewed new construction sites under the “Mission Infrastructure Push 2025” – a project that aims to transform border cantonments into modern, smart, and sustainable defence hubs.

He visited engineering sites where new bunkers with integrated digital control, hardened command posts, and network-enabled storage points are being built. These upgrades aim at ensuring fast mobilisation, better survivability, and real-time communication capability in case of a high-intensity conflict.

Op Sindoor: Remembering grit and glory

A recurring theme throughout Lt Gen Manjinder Singh’s visit was the mention of Operation Sindoor, where the Indian Armed Forces had conducted swift and calibrated retaliatory actions along the western front following heightened provocations earlier this year.

He commended all ranks for their precision under pressure, coordination with the IAF, and zero tolerance approach to cross-border threats. He declared that “Op Sindoor was not just an operation, it was a declaration—that India’s western defence is alert, awake, and fearless.”

By recalling those recent actions, the Army Commander reinforced a culture of institutional memory, operational learning, and eternal preparedness.

The Message: Leadership that inspires, protects and transforms

The Army Commander’s visit wasn’t a routine inspection—it was a clear signal to adversaries, an assurance to citizens, and an embrace to the troops. It sent out a strong message that India’s border formations are not only operationally ready but also emotionally united.

Under Lt Gen Manjinder Singh’s leadership, South Western Command continues to stand as a bulwark of national defence, blending old-school soldiering with 21st-century warfare doctrine, with equal emphasis on firepower and human spirit.
