बीकानेर शहर में सोमवार देर रात कथित रूप से ड्रिंक एंड ड्राइव का एक बेहद खौफनाक मामला सामने आया, जिसने देर रात सड़क पर मौजूद लोगों में दहशत फैला दी। जय नारायण व्यास कॉलोनी थाना क्षेत्र में नागणेची मंदिर से घड़सीसर रोड के बीच तेज रफ्तार से दौड़ रही एक कार अनियंत्रित होकर पहले सड़क किनारे लगे बिजली के पोल से जा टकराई और इसके बाद नीम के पेड़ में घुस गई। प्रत्यक्षदर्शियों के अनुसार कार में युवक और युवतियां सवार थे, जिनके शराब के नशे में होने की आशंका जताई जा रही है। हादसे में कई बाइक सवार और पैदल राहगीर बाल-बाल बच गए, जिससे एक बड़ा हादसा टल गया।
प्रत्यक्षदर्शियों ने बताया कि रात करीब 11 बजे पवनपुरी मेन रोड से घड़सीसर की ओर आ रही कार काफी तेज गति से लहराते हुए चल रही थी। वाहन चालक कार पर नियंत्रण बनाए रखने में असफल रहा और अचानक कार पहले बिजली के पोल से जोरदार टकरा गई। टक्कर इतनी तेज थी कि आसपास के लोग घबरा गए। इसके बाद भी कार नहीं रुकी और अनियंत्रित होकर सड़क किनारे स्थित एक नीम के पेड़ से जा भिड़ी।
घटना के दौरान सड़क पर मौजूद लोगों में अफरा-तफरी मच गई। स्थानीय लोगों का कहना है कि यदि उस समय सड़क पर थोड़ी अधिक भीड़ होती तो यह हादसा कई लोगों की जान ले सकता था। कई दोपहिया वाहन चालक और पैदल राहगीर कार की चपेट में आने से कुछ ही सेकंड पहले बच निकले।
हादसे के तुरंत बाद आसपास के लोग मौके पर पहुंचे और पुलिस को सूचना दी। देखते ही देखते घटनास्थल पर लोगों की भारी भीड़ जमा हो गई। स्थानीय नागरिकों ने आरोप लगाया कि क्षेत्र में स्थित शराब के ठेके के कारण देर रात तक लोगों का जमावड़ा लगा रहता है और नशे की हालत में वाहन चलाने की घटनाएं लगातार सामने आती रहती हैं। उनका कहना है कि इस मार्ग पर पहले भी कई सड़क दुर्घटनाएं हो चुकी हैं, लेकिन इसके बावजूद प्रभावी कार्रवाई नहीं होने से लोगों की जान जोखिम में बनी हुई है।
पुलिस ने मौके पर पहुंचकर स्थिति का जायजा लिया और दुर्घटनाग्रस्त वाहन की जानकारी जुटाई। प्रारंभिक जानकारी के अनुसार पुलिस कार के पंजीकरण नंबर के आधार पर वाहन मालिक तथा उसमें सवार लोगों की पहचान करने में जुटी हुई है। साथ ही यह भी जांच की जा रही है कि दुर्घटना के समय चालक शराब के नशे में था या नहीं। पुलिस मामले के सभी पहलुओं की जांच कर रही है।
स्थानीय लोगों ने प्रशासन से मांग की है कि क्षेत्र में देर रात ड्रिंक एंड ड्राइव के खिलाफ विशेष अभियान चलाया जाए, शराब के ठेकों के आसपास पुलिस गश्त बढ़ाई जाए तथा तेज रफ्तार और लापरवाही से वाहन चलाने वालों पर कड़ी कार्रवाई की जाए, ताकि भविष्य में इस तरह की घटनाओं पर अंकुश लगाया जा सके।

A frightening late-night road accident, suspected to be a case of drunk driving, created panic in Bikaner’s Jai Narayan Vyas Colony police station area on Monday night. A speeding car carrying a group of young men and women allegedly lost control while travelling between Nagnechi Temple and Ghadsisar Road, crashing first into an electric pole before slamming into a neem tree. Several pedestrians and motorcyclists reportedly escaped by a narrow margin, preventing what could have turned into a major tragedy.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred at around 11:00 PM when the car was travelling from Pawanpuri Main Road towards Ghadsisar. Witnesses claimed the vehicle was swerving across the road, indicating that the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol. The speeding vehicle suddenly rammed into an electricity pole with great force before continuing uncontrollably and crashing into a roadside neem tree.
The impact triggered panic among people in the area. Locals stated that several bikers and pedestrians narrowly avoided being struck by the out-of-control vehicle. Had the road been busier at the time, the accident could have resulted in multiple casualties.
Residents quickly gathered at the scene and informed the police. A large crowd assembled soon after the crash. Locals also expressed concern over the presence of a liquor shop along the route, alleging that late-night alcohol sales often lead to gatherings of intoxicated individuals and repeated incidents of reckless driving. They claimed that multiple accidents have occurred on the same stretch in the past as well.
Police reached the spot and began investigating the incident. Officials are using the vehicle’s registration number to identify the owner and those travelling inside the car. Authorities are also examining whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Further investigation is underway.
Residents have urged the administration to intensify late-night anti-drunk-driving drives, increase police patrolling around liquor outlets, and take strict action against reckless motorists to prevent similar incidents and improve road safety in the city.
