In a solemn and proud ceremony, Lt. Col. Hem Singh Shekhawat, a distinguished veteran of the famed Chachro Raid, and Lt. Gen. Ajai Kumar Singh, Army Commander of the South Western Command, commemorated the historic Battle of Chachro, 1971.

This event, held to honor the bravery and audacity of the Indian Special Forces, highlighted the remarkable operation executed under the command of Lt. Col. (later Brig.) Bhawani Singh, who was awarded the Mahavir Chakra for his gallantry.

The Battle of Chachro, conducted during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, remains a testament to the strategic brilliance and daring of the Indian Special Forces.

The operation was meticulously planned and executed by the elite unit, often referred to as the “Desert Scorpions.” Under the leadership of Lt. Col. Bhawani Singh, the Indian forces penetrated deep into enemy territory, surprising and overwhelming the Pakistani forces stationed at Chachro, a key position in the Thar Desert.
