Delhi Police Arrests Wanted Criminal Sher Khan After Encounter in Outer Delhi

New Delhi: In a major breakthrough, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has arrested dreaded criminal Sher Khan alias Sheru, who had been on the run for months. Sher Khan, a notorious gangster with a criminal record spanning nearly two decades, was wanted in more than 25 cases, including murder, robbery, and attempted murder. His arrest came after a dramatic police encounter near Barwala village in Outer Delhi.

Encounter and Arrest

Providing details of the arrest, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Surender Kumar stated, “Sher Khan has been committing crimes continuously for the last 18-19 years. Our team received information about his movement in Outer Delhi near Barwala village. When the Crime Branch team tried to intercept him, he opened fire on the police. Fortunately, no officer was injured.”

In response, the police initially fired a warning shot in the air, urging him to surrender. However, Sher Khan again pointed his country-made pistol at the police team, forcing them to retaliate in self-defense. In the brief encounter that followed, Sher Khan was shot in the leg, after which he was overpowered and taken to a hospital for treatment.

The arrest marks a significant achievement for law enforcement agencies, as Sher Khan had managed to evade the police for a long time despite multiple attempts to nab him.

Long History of Crimes and Gang Rivalry

Sher Khan’s criminal activities date back 18-19 years, and he has remained one of the most feared criminals in Delhi’s underworld. He is accused in at least two murder cases, multiple robbery cases, and several attempted murder (IPC Section 307) cases.

His name has been frequently linked to violent clashes and gang wars in Delhi. One of the key aspects of his criminal background is his long-standing rivalry with Jawed’s family, which has led to multiple violent confrontations over the years.

Additional CP Crime Sanjay Bhatia elaborated on this gang feud, stating:

“On December 17, a firing incident took place between Sher Khan’s family and Jawed’s family due to an old enmity. This was not the first time; cases have been registered in the past regarding their violent clashes. During the recent gunfight, a 10-year-old child, an innocent bystander, was shot. After this incident, Sher Khan went underground to avoid arrest.”

Following this senseless violence, Delhi Police intensified their search for Sher Khan, tracking his movements across various locations.

Multiple Family Members in Custody

The ongoing gang war between Sher Khan and Jawed’s families has seen multiple members from both sides either arrested or killed in violent confrontations.

  • Jawed’s three brothers – Junaid, Parvesh, and Nawed – are currently in judicial custody.
  • Sher Khan’s brother Sohail is also in jail.
  • Another of Sher Khan’s brothers, Shohaib, was murdered during an altercation between the two families.

This violent history has kept the police on high alert, as further retaliation from either side remains a strong possibility.

Search for Jawed Continues

Despite the successful arrest of Sher Khan, the hunt for Jawed continues, as he remains absconding. The NDR (Narcotics and Drug-related Crime Response) team recently received intelligence that Jawed may be hiding somewhere near Narela, and efforts to track him down are underway.

During the arrest of Sher Khan, police also recovered a weapon from his possession, further strengthening the case against him.

Serious Threat to Law and Order

Sher Khan’s capture is a significant win for Delhi Police, as his criminal activities and involvement in violent clashes had become a major threat to law and order in the region. Authorities are now investigating his links to other criminal networks, including possible connections with illegal arms suppliers.

Officials believe that with his arrest, the ongoing gang feud between the two families could be controlled to some extent, but tensions remain high. The police are continuing round-the-clock surveillance to ensure that no further violence erupts in the area.

What’s Next?

Sher Khan is currently under medical supervision, and once he recovers, he will be produced before the court. Delhi Police are also preparing a strong chargesheet against him, including multiple serious offenses under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act.

Meanwhile, the search for Jawed and other absconding criminals continues, with Delhi Police determined to bring an end to this long-standing cycle of crime and violence.
