Govt pays Rs38.16b to IPP company without receiving a single unit

The Independent Power Procedures (IPP) contracts put all the burden on the already financially crunched consumers and now in the latest incident Rs38.16 billion were paid without generating a single unit from a private power company.

As per the documents available with the SAMAA TV, payments were made towards capacity charges in the last 14 months. All the amounts paid to IPP were collected from the poor and ordinary consumers in their electricity bills.
According to documents, payments were made from October 2022 to December 2023. In 2023, 1.95 percent of the electricity was operated, in 2022 21.11 percent.
