Haryana YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra Arrested in Major Espionage Case Linked to Pakistan: A Deepening Spy Network Uncovered
New Delhi / Hisar, May 17, 2025 — In a case that has sent shockwaves across the digital and national security landscape, travel vlogger Jyoti Malhotra, popularly known online as “Travel with Jo,” has been arrested by Indian authorities for allegedly leaking sensitive information to Pakistani intelligence operatives. The arrest follows days of surveillance, digital forensic analysis, and inter-agency cooperation, culminating in her detention by the Civil Lines police in Hisar, Haryana.
Jyoti Malhotra, with over 3.77 lakh YouTube subscribers and more than 480 videos, gained fame through her solo international travel vlogs — particularly those focusing on Pakistan. However, what started as cultural storytelling has now allegedly turned into a grave breach of India’s national security under the Official Secrets Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
A Timeline of Espionage: From YouTube Stardom to Security Breach
According to officials privy to the investigation, Jyoti first came into contact with Pakistani High Commission staff in Delhi in 2023 during a visa application process for her trip to Pakistan. There, she reportedly met an official named Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias “Danish” — a known Pakistani intelligence liaison.
This interaction deepened over time. After her visa was approved, she traveled to Pakistan — not once but twice. During her visits, she stayed in touch with Rahim and was introduced to Ali Ahwan, a Pakistani national who facilitated her stay and further connections with ISI-linked personnel such as “Rana Shahbaz” and “Shakir.” According to investigators, she saved Shahbaz’s number under the alias “Jatt Randhawa” on her phone to avoid suspicion.
The digital footprint retrieved from her devices revealed communication over WhatsApp, Telegram, and Snapchat — all encrypted platforms frequently used in covert operations. The chats, now in possession of central investigative agencies, reportedly included maps, photos, videos, and observations from areas near military installations and border zones — information deemed sensitive under the Official Secrets Act.

Her arrest comes just days after India expelled a Pakistani High Commission staffer for espionage activities on May 13, 2025. Officials have confirmed that Jyoti was in active contact with this individual, and the timing of both the expulsion and her arrest points to a coordinated surveillance and counter-intelligence operation by Indian agencies.
On March 22, Jyoti had posted a photo claiming to be at the Pakistan High Commission with two other Indian YouTubers. Authorities are now scanning the online activities of those individuals as well.
A Widening Spy Web in Haryana
Jyoti’s arrest is part of a disturbing pattern emerging in Haryana. Just 24 hours before her detention, another suspect — Devinder Singh Dhillon, a 25-year-old political science student from Kaithal — was arrested for allegedly passing classified information to Pakistani handlers.
Adding to this is the arrest of Nauman Ilahi, a 24-year-old from Panipat, who has also been charged with espionage. Preliminary investigations suggest that these individuals may have been part of a loosely connected spy network manipulated through social media and visa exchanges.
Charges and Legal Action
Jyoti Malhotra has been booked under multiple sections of the Official Secrets Act and provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. She remains in police custody while forensic experts analyze her digital data, financial transactions, and travel history.
An FIR lodged at Hisar’s Civil Lines police station details her clandestine communications, use of fake names, suspicious foreign transactions, and intent to harm India’s strategic interests.
Official Response and Implications
Senior intelligence sources told this correspondent that the case underscores the growing risk of “non-traditional espionage” where influencers, students, and content creators become vulnerable targets for foreign operatives. The Ministry of Home Affairs has initiated a broader review of YouTubers and influencers visiting sensitive regions abroad, especially those with repeated access to foreign missions.
The case also comes against the backdrop of rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 civilians — a context that adds further gravity to Malhotra’s alleged activities.

नई दिल्ली / हिसार, 17 मई 2025 — ट्रैवल व्लॉगर और यूट्यूबर ज्योति मल्होत्रा को शनिवार को गिरफ्तार किया गया, जिससे देशभर में हलचल मच गई है। ज्योति, जो “Travel with Jo” के नाम से मशहूर हैं, पर आरोप है कि उन्होंने पाकिस्तान की खुफिया एजेंसियों को गोपनीय जानकारी साझा की। यह गिरफ्तारी उन खुफिया जानकारियों के आधार पर हुई है जो भारतीय सुरक्षा एजेंसियों द्वारा डिजिटल फॉरेंसिक विश्लेषण के जरिए इकट्ठी की गईं।
हिसार की रहने वाली ज्योति के यूट्यूब चैनल पर 3.77 लाख से अधिक सब्सक्राइबर हैं और उन्होंने पाकिस्तान यात्रा पर आधारित कई व्लॉग बनाए हैं। लेकिन अब वही यात्राएं भारत की सुरक्षा के लिए खतरा बन गई हैं।
जासूसी का सफर: यूट्यूब से पाकिस्तान हाई कमीशन तक
जांच एजेंसियों के अनुसार, 2023 में वीजा के लिए पाकिस्तान हाई कमीशन जाने के दौरान ज्योति की मुलाकात ‘एहसान-उर-रहीम उर्फ दानिश’ नामक व्यक्ति से हुई, जो पाकिस्तान की खुफिया एजेंसी से जुड़ा था।
इसके बाद उन्होंने दो बार पाकिस्तान की यात्रा की। वहां, अली अहवान नामक व्यक्ति ने न केवल उनके ठहरने की व्यवस्था की, बल्कि उन्हें पाकिस्तानी खुफिया अधिकारियों — शाकिर और राणा शाहबाज़ — से भी मिलवाया। शाहबाज़ का नाम उन्होंने अपने फोन में ‘जट्ट रंधावा’ के नाम से सेव किया था।
डिजिटल सबूत और चैट्स
व्हाट्सएप, टेलीग्राम और स्नैपचैट जैसे मैसेजिंग ऐप पर उनकी गतिविधियों की जांच में सामने आया है कि उन्होंने संवेदनशील दस्तावेज, वीडियो, फोटो और मैप साझा किए, जो सीमावर्ती इलाकों और सैन्य ठिकानों से संबंधित थे।
निकाले गए पाक अधिकारी से संबंध
13 मई को भारत ने एक पाकिस्तानी राजनयिक को जासूसी के आरोप में देश से निष्कासित कर दिया था। अब यह साफ हो चुका है कि उसी अधिकारी से ज्योति मल्होत्रा के गहरे संबंध थे। यह मामला भारत की काउंटर-इंटेलिजेंस सफलता को भी रेखांकित करता है।
22 मार्च को ज्योति ने एक फोटो शेयर की थी जिसमें वो दो अन्य भारतीय यूट्यूबर्स के साथ पाकिस्तान हाई कमीशन में दिख रही थीं। अब सुरक्षा एजेंसियां उन यूट्यूबर्स की भी जांच कर रही हैं।
हरियाणा में फैलता जासूसी नेटवर्क
ज्योति की गिरफ्तारी से एक दिन पहले ही कैथल में 25 वर्षीय छात्र देविंदर सिंह ढिल्लों को जासूसी के आरोप में गिरफ्तार किया गया था। इसके बाद पानीपत से 24 वर्षीय नौमान इलाही को भी पाकिस्तान को संवेदनशील जानकारी देने के आरोप में पकड़ा गया है।
कानूनी कार्रवाई और आरोप
ज्योति मल्होत्रा पर ऑफिशियल सीक्रेट्स एक्ट और भारतीय न्याय संहिता की विभिन्न धाराओं के तहत केस दर्ज किया गया है। उनके डिजिटल उपकरणों, बैंक ट्रांजैक्शनों और यात्रा रूटीन की गहन जांच चल रही है।
राष्ट्रीय सुरक्षा पर खतरा और सरकारी प्रतिक्रिया
एक वरिष्ठ अधिकारी ने बताया कि ये मामला बताता है कि अब केवल पारंपरिक जासूस ही नहीं, बल्कि छात्र, कंटेंट क्रिएटर और इन्फ्लुएंसर्स भी दुश्मन एजेंसियों का आसान निशाना बनते जा रहे हैं। गृह मंत्रालय अब ऐसे यूट्यूबर्स और डिजिटल इन्फ्लुएंसर्स की स्क्रीनिंग कर रहा है जिन्होंने पाकिस्तान या अन्य संवेदनशील देशों की यात्रा की है।
यह गिरफ्तारी ऐसे समय में हुई है जब भारत-पाक संबंध पहले से ही तनावपूर्ण हैं — खासकर 22 अप्रैल को हुए पहलगाम आतंकी हमले के बाद।
