Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand Inaugurates Free Dental Camp for Veterans and Their Families in Dehradun

Dehradun, Tuesday, 19 August 2025 – In a heartfelt gesture dedicated to the well-being of soldiers who once served the nation and their families, the Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand, Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd), inaugurated a three-day Free Dental Camp at the Military Dental Centre, Dehradun. The initiative, launched under the aegis of Headquarters Uttarakhand Sub Area, is scheduled to run from 19th to 21st August 2025 and is expected to benefit nearly 500 veterans and their dependents.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by a distinguished gathering of serving officers, veterans, and dignitaries. Present on the occasion were the Station Commander Dehradun, Deputy GOC 14 Infantry Division, Commandant of Military Hospital, Brigadier Sanjay Sharma, Major General M.L. Aswal (Retd), President of UKESL, Brigadier Amrit Lal (Retd), Director RSB, and several senior veterans of Uttarakhand. The event reflected the close-knit bond between the armed forces community and the civil administration.

The camp has been meticulously planned and executed with the active involvement of Dental Officers, Para-Dental Staff of Station Units, ECHS Polyclinics of Dehradun and Clement Town, ensuring a comprehensive approach to oral health. Free check-ups, preventive care sessions, and treatment for various dental issues are being provided to veterans and their families, many of whom often face difficulties in accessing specialized medical services.

Governor’s Address: A Commitment to Veteran Welfare

In his address to the gathering, the Hon’ble Governor lauded the initiative of HQ Uttarakhand Sub Area, describing the Dental Camp as a “significant step towards ensuring the well-being of our veterans.” He stressed that providing accessible and quality healthcare to veterans is not merely a social responsibility but a sacred duty that society must uphold with pride.

“Our veterans have given their prime years in service of the nation. Their sacrifices and dedication are unparalleled. Today, when we ensure healthcare and support for them, we are fulfilling our responsibility with utmost respect and gratitude,” the Governor remarked.

Army’s Commitment: A Token of Gratitude

Speaking on the occasion, Major General M.P.S. Gill, GOC, Uttarakhand Sub Area, reiterated the Army’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of veterans and their dependents. He noted that the camp is a token of gratitude and a reaffirmation of the Army’s pledge to stand by its veterans beyond active service.

“This camp is not just about dental care; it is about sending a larger message – that our soldiers and their families remain a priority always. Their welfare will never be compromised, and this camp is a small reflection of our gratitude,” Maj Gen Gill stated.

The initiative has been warmly welcomed by the veteran community of Dehradun, which has long been considered one of India’s most prominent defence hubs. With hundreds of ex-servicemen residing in the state, particularly in Dehradun, Clement Town, and surrounding areas, the effort carries both symbolic and practical importance.

This three-day camp symbolizes a broader commitment by the Army and the Uttarakhand government towards inclusive veteran welfare, ensuring that the bond between the uniform and the nation remains unbreakable even after retirement.

माननीय राज्यपाल उत्तराखंड द्वारा पूर्व सैनिकों और उनके परिजनों के लिए नि:शुल्क डेंटल कैंप का शुभारंभ

देहरादून, मंगलवार, 19 अगस्त 2025 – राष्ट्र की सेवा कर चुके पूर्व सैनिकों और उनके परिवारों के स्वास्थ्य कल्याण को समर्पित एक महत्वपूर्ण पहल के तहत उत्तराखंड के माननीय राज्यपाल लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल गुरमीत सिंह (से.नि.), पीवीएसएम, यूवाईएसएम, एवीएसएम, वीएसएम ने मिलिट्री डेंटल सेंटर, देहरादून में नि:शुल्क डेंटल कैंप का उद्घाटन किया। यह तीन दिवसीय शिविर 19 से 21 अगस्त तक चलेगा और लगभग 500 पूर्व सैनिकों एवं उनके आश्रितों को लाभान्वित करेगा।

उद्घाटन समारोह में अनेक वरिष्ठ सैन्य अधिकारी और पूर्व सैनिक शामिल हुए। कार्यक्रम में स्टेशन कमांडर देहरादून, डिप्टी जीओसी 14 इन्फैंट्री डिवीजन, कमांडेंट मिलिट्री हॉस्पिटल, ब्रिगेडियर संजय शर्मा, मेजर जनरल (से.नि.) एम.एल. असवाल, अध्यक्ष यूकेईएसएल, ब्रिगेडियर (से.नि.) अमृत लाल, निदेशक आरएसबी और अन्य कई वरिष्ठ पूर्व सैनिक मौजूद रहे। यह आयोजन सैन्य और प्रशासनिक तंत्र के बीच आपसी सहयोग और संवेदनशीलता का प्रतीक रहा।

शिविर के संचालन में स्टेशन यूनिट्स, ईसीएचएस पॉलीक्लिनिक देहरादून और क्लेमेंट टाउन के डेंटल अफसरों व पैरा-डेंटल स्टाफ ने सक्रिय भूमिका निभाई। इस दौरान पूर्व सैनिकों और उनके परिजनों को नि:शुल्क दंत परीक्षण, उपचार और मौखिक स्वास्थ्य जागरूकता संबंधी सेवाएं प्रदान की जा रही हैं।

राज्यपाल का संबोधन: पूर्व सैनिकों के लिए सम्मान और प्रतिबद्धता

अपने संबोधन में माननीय राज्यपाल ने उत्तराखंड सब एरिया मुख्यालय की इस पहल की सराहना करते हुए कहा कि यह शिविर “पूर्व सैनिकों और उनके परिवारों की भलाई सुनिश्चित करने की दिशा में एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम है।” उन्होंने कहा कि गुणवत्तापूर्ण और सुलभ स्वास्थ्य सेवाएं प्रदान करना केवल एक जिम्मेदारी नहीं बल्कि गर्व का विषय है।

उन्होंने कहा –
“हमारे पूर्व सैनिकों ने अपने जीवन का सर्वश्रेष्ठ समय देश की सेवा में समर्पित किया है। आज जब हम उनके स्वास्थ्य की देखभाल के लिए इस प्रकार के प्रयास करते हैं, तो हम अपनी जिम्मेदारी को सम्मान और कृतज्ञता के साथ निभा रहे हैं।”

सेना का संकल्प: सेवा और कृतज्ञता का प्रतीक

इस अवसर पर मेजर जनरल एम.पी.एस. गिल, जीओसी, उत्तराखंड सब एरिया ने कहा कि यह शिविर केवल दंत चिकित्सा तक सीमित नहीं है बल्कि यह सेना की उस प्रतिबद्धता का प्रतीक है जिसमें पूर्व सैनिकों और उनके परिवारों की भलाई सर्वोच्च है।

उन्होंने कहा –
“यह शिविर हमारी कृतज्ञता और सेवा भावना का प्रतीक है। हमारे सैनिक और उनके परिवार हमेशा हमारी प्राथमिकता रहेंगे। यह आयोजन इस वचनबद्धता को और मजबूत करता है कि हम सेवा निवृत्ति के बाद भी अपने पूर्व सैनिकों के साथ खड़े हैं।”

देहरादून और आसपास के क्षेत्रों में बड़ी संख्या में पूर्व सैनिकों का रहना इस आयोजन को और अधिक प्रासंगिक बनाता है। यह शिविर पूर्व सैनिक कल्याण की दिशा में सेना और राज्य प्रशासन की साझी पहल का एक उत्कृष्ट उदाहरण है।
