भारतीय वायुसेना और रॉयल थाई एयर फोर्स का हिंद महासागर क्षेत्र में ऐतिहासिक इन-सिटू संयुक्त अभ्यास, भारत-थाईलैंड वायु शक्ति सहयोग को नई ऊँचाई
(IAF) ने हिंद महासागर क्षेत्र में अपनी रणनीतिक पहुँच और क्षेत्रीय साझेदारियों को और सशक्त करते हुए (RTAF) के साथ 09 से 12 फरवरी 2026 के बीच एक उच्चस्तरीय इन-सिटू संयुक्त वायु अभ्यास का सफल आयोजन किया। यह अभ्यास न केवल भारत और थाईलैंड के बीच सैन्य सहयोग को नई मजबूती देता है, बल्कि यह भी दर्शाता है कि भारतीय वायुसेना समुद्री क्षेत्र में लंबी दूरी तक प्रभावी वायु शक्ति का संचालन करने और मित्र राष्ट्रों के साथ निर्बाध रूप से समन्वय स्थापित करने में पूरी तरह सक्षम है।
समुद्री क्षेत्र में उन्नत वायु युद्ध अभ्यास, आधुनिक फाइटर जेट्स की शक्ति का प्रदर्शन
इस द्विपक्षीय अभ्यास को उन्नत एयर कॉम्बैट ट्रेनिंग एक्सरसाइज के रूप में अंजाम दिया गया, जिसमें दोनों देशों के अग्रिम पंक्ति के लड़ाकू विमानों ने हिस्सा लिया। भारतीय वायुसेना ने अपने अत्याधुनिक बहु-भूमिका लड़ाकू विमान को तैनात किया, जबकि थाईलैंड की ओर से अत्यधिक सक्षम फाइटर जेट्स ने भाग लिया। इन दोनों प्लेटफॉर्म्स के बीच हुए अभ्यास ने पायलटों को दृश्य सीमा से परे और दृश्य सीमा के भीतर हवाई युद्ध परिदृश्यों में प्रशिक्षण का अवसर दिया, जिससे सामरिक कौशल, मिशन योजना और परिचालन सिद्धांतों की गहरी समझ विकसित हुई।
फोर्स मल्टीप्लायर्स और नेटवर्क-सेंट्रिक युद्ध क्षमता का सजीव प्रदर्शन
इस अभ्यास की सबसे महत्वपूर्ण विशेषताओं में भारतीय वायुसेना के फोर्स मल्टीप्लायर्स की प्रभावी भूमिका रही। समुद्री क्षेत्र में लंबी दूरी के अभियानों को संभव बनाने के लिए IAF ने IL-78 मिड-एयर रिफ्यूलिंग टैंकर विमानों की तैनाती की, जिससे Su-30MKI लड़ाकू विमानों को लंबे समय तक हवा में बने रहने और विस्तारित रेंज में ऑपरेशन करने की क्षमता मिली। पूरे अभ्यास को भारतीय वायुसेना के एयरबोर्न वार्निंग एंड कंट्रोल सिस्टम (AWACS) विमानों के माध्यम से संचालित किया गया, जिन्होंने रियल-टाइम निगरानी, कमांड और कंट्रोल तथा हवाई क्षेत्र प्रबंधन सुनिश्चित किया। वहीं, रॉयल थाई एयर फोर्स की ग्राउंड कंट्रोल इंटरसेप्शन (GCI) प्रणाली ने दोनों वायु सेनाओं के बीच बेहतर समन्वय और सूचना साझा करने में अहम भूमिका निभाई।
अंडमान-निकोबार द्वीप समूह से परिचालन, भारत की रणनीतिक अग्रिम क्षमता का संकेत
भारतीय वायुसेना के सभी भाग लेने वाले विमान स्थित एयरबेस से संचालित किए गए, जो हिंद महासागर के प्रमुख समुद्री मार्गों पर भारत की रणनीतिक पकड़ का केंद्र हैं। दूसरी ओर, थाई वायुसेना के Gripen फाइटर जेट्स ने थाईलैंड स्थित अपने एयरबेस से उड़ान भरी। यह अभ्यास वास्तविक परिचालन भूगोल में किया गया एक ऐसा संयुक्त अभ्यास था, जिसमें दोनों देशों ने अपनी-अपनी भूमि से ही लड़ाकू विमानों को संचालित किया। इससे अंडमान-निकोबार द्वीप समूह की भूमिका एक मजबूत अग्रिम वायु शक्ति केंद्र के रूप में और अधिक स्पष्ट हुई।
हिंद महासागर क्षेत्र में IAF की पहुँच और इंटरऑपरेबिलिटी का प्रभावशाली प्रदर्शन
इस इन-सिटू अभ्यास का उद्देश्य केवल सामरिक प्रशिक्षण नहीं था, बल्कि यह भारतीय वायुसेना की लंबी दूरी तक शक्ति प्रक्षेपण क्षमता और मित्र देशों के साथ उच्चस्तरीय इंटरऑपरेबिलिटी का भी प्रदर्शन था। अभ्यास के दौरान दोनों वायु सेनाओं के पायलटों, मिशन कमांडरों और ग्राउंड कंट्रोलरों को परिचालन अनुभव साझा करने, सर्वश्रेष्ठ प्रक्रियाओं का आदान-प्रदान करने और एक-दूसरे की क्षमताओं को समझने का अवसर मिला। यह सहयोग भविष्य में मानवीय सहायता, आपदा राहत और समुद्री सुरक्षा जैसे अभियानों के दौरान अत्यंत उपयोगी सिद्ध हो सकता है।
‘एक्ट ईस्ट’ नीति को वायु शक्ति के माध्यम से नई दिशा
रणनीतिक दृष्टि से यह अभ्यास भारत की ‘एक्ट ईस्ट’ नीति के विस्तार का एक सशक्त उदाहरण है, जिसमें अब रक्षा और एयरोस्पेस सहयोग भी प्रमुख भूमिका निभा रहा है। थाईलैंड, दक्षिण-पूर्व एशिया में भारत का एक महत्वपूर्ण साझेदार बनकर उभर रहा है, और यह अभ्यास दोनों देशों के बीच गहराते रणनीतिक विश्वास का प्रतीक है। ऐसे समय में जब हिंद-प्रशांत क्षेत्र में भू-राजनीतिक प्रतिस्पर्धा बढ़ रही है, भारतीय वायुसेना और रॉयल थाई एयर फोर्स का यह संयुक्त अभ्यास भारत को एक जिम्मेदार, सक्षम और विश्वसनीय सुरक्षा भागीदार के रूप में स्थापित करता है। यह अभ्यास आने वाले वर्षों में भारत-थाईलैंड वायु शक्ति सहयोग के और अधिक व्यापक तथा जटिल स्वरूप की मजबूत नींव रखता है।

IAF–RTAF IN-SITU JOINT EXERCISE IN INDIAN OCEAN REGION MARKS A NEW MILESTONE IN INDIA–THAILAND AIR POWER COOPERATION
The (IAF) has taken another significant step in strengthening India’s strategic outreach and operational partnerships in the Indo-Pacific by successfully conducting an In-situ Joint Air Exercise with the (RTAF) in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) from 09 to 12 February 2026. This high-end bilateral engagement, conducted across vast maritime spaces, underlined the growing depth of defence cooperation between India and Thailand and highlighted the IAF’s ability to project credible air power far beyond the mainland while operating seamlessly with a friendly foreign air force.
HIGH-INTENSITY AIR COMBAT TRAINING OVER THE MARITIME DOMAIN
The joint exercise was executed in the form of an advanced air combat training engagement, bringing together frontline multirole fighter aircraft from both nations. The IAF deployed its formidable fighters, while the RTAF participated with its highly capable jets. The interaction between these two advanced platforms allowed both air forces to practice beyond-visual-range and within-visual-range combat scenarios, sharpen tactical employment skills, and gain insights into each other’s operational doctrines, combat philosophies, and mission planning processes in a realistic maritime environment.
FORCE MULTIPLIERS AND NETWORK-CENTRIC WARFARE IN ACTION
A key highlight of the exercise was the extensive use of force multipliers, demonstrating modern network-centric air warfare in action. The IAF ensured sustained long-range operations over the Indian Ocean through the deployment of IL-78 mid-air refuelling aircraft, enabling Su-30MKI fighters to operate at extended distances and remain airborne for prolonged durations. The entire exercise was conducted under the protective and coordinating umbrella of Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft from the IAF, which provided real-time situational awareness, airspace management, and command-and-control support. Complementing this, the RTAF contributed its Ground Control Interception (GCI) elements, enabling integrated control of fighter operations and seamless information sharing between the two air forces.
ANDAMAN & NICOBAR ISLANDS AS A STRATEGIC LAUNCHPAD
The IAF’s participating aircraft operated from airbases in the , a strategically critical tri-service theatre that sits astride major sea lanes of communication in the eastern Indian Ocean. The Royal Thai Air Force’s Gripen fighters, on the other hand, launched from their home bases in Thailand, making this a true cross-border, distributed air exercise conducted in real operational geography. The deployment once again underlined the strategic importance of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as India’s forward air power hub in the IOR, capable of supporting long-range fighter operations, surveillance missions, and joint engagements with regional partners.
DEMONSTRATING IAF’S REACH AND INTEROPERABILITY IN THE IOR
Designed as an in-situ exercise rather than a traditional base-sharing drill, the engagement showcased the Indian Air Force’s ability to project power, sustain combat aircraft at long distances, and integrate with a friendly foreign country without relocating assets abroad. For both IAF and RTAF crews, the exercise offered invaluable operational exposure, allowing pilots, mission commanders, and ground controllers to exchange best practices, refine interoperability procedures, and understand each other’s strengths and limitations. Such interactions significantly enhance mutual trust and operational comfort, which are critical during real-world contingencies such as humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, or maritime security operations.
ACT EAST POLICY TAKES FLIGHT IN THE AEROSPACE DOMAIN
Beyond its tactical and operational value, the exercise carried strong strategic messaging. It reflects the steady expansion of India’s “Act East” policy into the aerospace and defence domain, with Thailand emerging as a key regional partner in Southeast Asia. As the Indo-Pacific witnesses increasing strategic competition and growing security challenges, exercises like these reinforce India’s role as a net security provider and a reliable partner committed to a free, open, and inclusive Indian Ocean Region. The IAF–RTAF in-situ joint exercise stands as a clear indicator of deepening India–Thailand defence ties, setting the stage for more complex and high-end air power cooperation in the years ahead.
