INAUGURATION OF NAIK JADUNATH SINGH, PARAM VIR CHAKRA MEMORIAL AT KHAJURI, SHAHJAHANPUR, UTTAR PRADESH

In a momentous tribute to one of India’s greatest war heroes, a grand and solemn ceremony was held at Khajuri village in Shahjahanpur district to inaugurate the Naik Jadunath Singh, Param Vir Chakra Memorial. This memorial stands as a testament to the unparalleled bravery and supreme sacrifice of Naik Jadunath Singh, PVC, who displayed extraordinary courage during the Indo-Pak War of 1947-48 and laid down his life in service of the nation.

The prestigious event was graced by Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, PVSM, AVSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command and Colonel of The Rajput Regiment, who officially inaugurated the war memorial. The occasion was further honoured by the presence of several distinguished guests, including Shri Hari Shankar Verma, MLA, Jalalabad, and Brigadier HS Sandhu, SM, Commandant of The Rajput Regimental Centre, along with senior military officials, war veterans, local administration officials, and family members of the late Naik Jadunath Singh.
A Glorious Tribute to a War Hero
The newly unveiled memorial stands as a beacon of courage, immortalizing the heroism of Naik Jadunath Singh, who made the supreme sacrifice during the Battle of Naushera in 1948. During this critical phase of the war, he led his small band of soldiers against overwhelming enemy forces, displaying unmatched valour and selflessness. Despite being heavily outnumbered, Naik Jadunath Singh and his men held their ground, fiercely defending their post against repeated enemy assaults. Even after being grievously injured, he continued to fight with indomitable spirit, leading a counterattack that forced the enemy to retreat. His courageous act not only saved his battalion but also turned the tide of battle, ensuring India’s victory in Naushera.

Recognizing his extraordinary gallantry and supreme sacrifice, the Government of India posthumously awarded him the Param Vir Chakra, the nation’s highest military honour for bravery in the face of the enemy.
A Ceremony Marked by Honour and Reverence
The inauguration ceremony witnessed an overwhelming turnout, as hundreds of people from across Shahjahanpur and neighbouring areas gathered to pay their respects. Among those present were serving military personnel, ex-servicemen, school students, and local villagers, who stood in solemn reverence as the memorial was unveiled. The ceremony began with a guard of honour presented by a contingent of The Rajput Regiment, followed by the laying of wreaths by senior military officials, dignitaries, and family members of Naik Jadunath Singh.
Addressing the gathering, Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar highlighted the significance of commemorating such national heroes, stating:
“Naik Jadunath Singh, Param Vir Chakra, exemplified the highest traditions of the Indian Army. His courage, selfless devotion to duty, and supreme sacrifice serve as a guiding light for future generations. This memorial is not just a tribute to his bravery but also an inspiration for the youth of our country to uphold the values of patriotism and service to the nation.”

Shri Hari Shankar Verma, MLA, also expressed his deep admiration for the legendary soldier, stating that the memorial will serve as a permanent reminder of the courage and sacrifice made by the brave sons of India. He urged the younger generation to draw inspiration from such warriors and work towards the nation’s progress with the same sense of dedication.
A Symbol of National Pride
The newly built memorial, located in Naik Jadunath Singh’s ancestral village of Khajuri, has been designed to reflect the spirit of bravery and selflessness. It features an imposing statue of the gallant soldier, along with an inscription detailing his heroic actions during the Battle of Naushera. The site has also been developed as a place of remembrance, where people can pay homage to the sacrifices of the Indian Army.
The event concluded with a cultural programme featuring patriotic songs and performances by schoolchildren, who expressed their gratitude towards the armed forces through their inspiring presentations.

With the inauguration of this memorial, the village of Khajuri has now become a symbol of national pride and military valour. The tribute to Naik Jadunath Singh, PVC, not only honours his legacy but also serves as a source of inspiration for generations to come, reminding every citizen of the sacrifices made by the brave soldiers of the Indian Army.
