रंगों में घुली सैन्य मित्रता: कमांडरों ने गुलाल लगाकर की शुरुआत
होली के इस विशेष अवसर पर दोनों देशों के कंटिंजेंट कमांडरों ने एक-दूसरे को गुलाल लगाकर और मिठाई खिलाकर उत्सव की शुरुआत की। इसके बाद भारतीय सेना के जांबाज जवानों, विशेष रूप से लद्दाख स्काउट्स के सैनिकों ने अपने जापानी साथियों का पारंपरिक भारतीय अंदाज में स्वागत किया। रंगों की बौछार और हंसी-खुशी के माहौल ने यह स्पष्ट कर दिया कि यह अभ्यास केवल सामरिक प्रशिक्षण तक सीमित नहीं है, बल्कि यह विश्वास और मित्रता की मजबूत नींव पर आधारित है।

भारत और जापान के बीच वार्षिक संयुक्त सैन्य अभ्यास ‘धर्मा गार्डियन’ का यह सातवां संस्करण 24 फरवरी 2026 से शुरू हुआ है और 9 मार्च 2026 तक चलेगा। यह अभ्यास उत्तराखंड के चौबटिया स्थित विदेशी प्रशिक्षण नोड में आयोजित किया जा रहा है, जो अपनी भौगोलिक विविधता और सामरिक उपयुक्तता के लिए जाना जाता है। इस अभ्यास में दोनों देशों की राइफल कंपनी स्तर की टुकड़ियां उत्साहपूर्वक भाग ले रही हैं।
भारतीय सेना के कंटिंजेंट कमांडर कर्नल डीएस शर्मा ने बताया कि इस संयुक्त प्रशिक्षण का मुख्य उद्देश्य दोनों सेनाओं के बीच इंटरऑपरेबिलिटी और संयुक्त संचालन क्षमता को बढ़ाना है। उन्होंने कहा कि इस अभ्यास के दौरान अर्ध-शहरी वातावरण में अर्ध-पारंपरिक अभियानों का प्रशिक्षण दिया जा रहा है, जो आधुनिक सुरक्षा परिदृश्य में अत्यंत प्रासंगिक है। साथ ही दोनों सेनाएं एक-दूसरे के सर्वोत्तम अभ्यासों, संचालन अनुभवों और रणनीतिक दृष्टिकोणों को साझा कर रही हैं, जिससे उनकी सामूहिक क्षमता और अधिक परिष्कृत हो सके।
अर्ध-शहरी युद्ध प्रशिक्षण: आधुनिक युद्धक्षेत्र की तैयारी

भारत के उत्तरी और पूर्वी सीमावर्ती क्षेत्रों की भौगोलिक चुनौतियों को देखते हुए पर्वतीय युद्ध कौशल भारतीय सेना के लिए अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। वहीं जापान भी अपने पर्वतीय भूभाग के कारण इस क्षेत्र में विशेष दक्षता रखता है। इस प्रकार रॉक क्राफ्ट प्रशिक्षण दोनों सेनाओं के लिए साझा सीख और अनुभव का महत्वपूर्ण मंच बन गया है।

The 7th edition of the annual India–Japan Joint Military Exercise ‘DHARMA GUARDIAN’ is currently underway at the Foreign Training Node in Chaubattia, symbolizing the growing strategic alignment between New Delhi and Tokyo. What made this edition particularly memorable was the sight of Japanese soldiers applying gulal and sharing traditional sweets with Indian troops, reflecting the warmth and mutual respect that now define bilateral military ties.
Holi Celebrations Mark Cultural Bonding Between Two Professional Forces
The celebrations began with the Contingent Commanders of both nations applying gulal to each other, setting the tone for a day that went beyond drills and tactical manoeuvres. The troops of the Indian Army, including the battle-hardened Ladakh Scouts, welcomed their Japanese counterparts with traditional enthusiasm. Soon after the ceremonial exchange of colors and sweets, soldiers from both armies participated in Holi festivities together, reinforcing bonds that have been forged through years of joint training and shared strategic outlook.
For the Japanese contingent, experiencing Holi within a military training environment offered not just cultural exposure but also a deeper understanding of Indian traditions. Seventh Edition of Exercise ‘DHARMA GUARDIAN’ Strengthens Operational Synergy
The ongoing edition of Exercise ‘DHARMA GUARDIAN’ marks the seventh iteration of this annual bilateral military engagement between the Indian Army and the Japan Ground Self Defense Force (JGSDF). The exercise commenced on 24 February 2026 and will continue until 9 March 2026 at the strategically located Foreign Training Node in Chaubattia, Uttarakhand. Over the years, this exercise has evolved into a key pillar of India–Japan defence cooperation under the broader framework of the Special Strategic and Global Partnership.
Col DS Sharma, Contingent Commander of the Indian Army, emphasized the importance of the exercise, stating that rifle company contingents from both nations are participating enthusiastically in intensive joint training. According to him, the focus of the exercise is on semi-conventional operations in a semi-urban environment, a domain increasingly relevant in contemporary security scenarios. He highlighted that the objective is to enhance interoperability, refine tactics, techniques and procedures, and share best operational practices.
The emphasis on semi-conventional warfare reflects emerging global security dynamics where armed forces must be prepared for a spectrum of operations ranging from conventional conflict to counter-insurgency and hybrid warfare scenarios.
Training at Foreign Training Node Focuses on Semi-Urban Combat Preparedness
The Foreign Training Node at Chaubattia provides an ideal terrain for realistic combat simulation, combining mountainous landscapes with semi-urban structures. Through Rock Craft activities, troops enhance physical endurance, mental resilience, and team coordination. The drills simulate real-world scenarios where mobility and rapid positioning in mountainous terrain can determine operational success. The exchange of mountaineering techniques and safety protocols has further deepened professional learning on both sides.
