Indian Army Rescues 21 Villagers in Dasuriya, Barmer Amidst Torrential Rains
Golden Katar Division’s Swift Humanitarian Response Saves Lives in Rajasthan’s Desert Belt

The unforgiving desert of Barmer, usually known for its scorching heat and arid landscape, was transformed into a scene of relentless rain and rising floodwaters over the weekend. Caught in the fury of nature, 21 villagers — including women and children — of Dasuriya village near Bakhasar tehsil found themselves stranded, their homes inundated and their safety hanging by a thread.
At that critical moment, it was the Indian Army’s Golden Katar Division that once again proved why the military is often regarded as the nation’s ultimate lifeline in times of crisis. In a daring and well-coordinated rescue operation on September 7 and 8, troops from the division’s Raptor Brigade braved the elements, navigating rising water levels and treacherous terrain to evacuate the villagers to safety.
The Call for Help
The operation began with an urgent request from Shri Bhavar Lal Bamaniya, the Sarpanch of Bakhasar, who alerted the authorities about the worsening situation in Dasuriya village. Heavy downpour had cut off access routes, and the villagers were trapped in rising waters with little means of escape.
Responding with remarkable speed, the Quick Reaction Team (QRT) of one of the infantry battalions under the Raptor Brigade was mobilised. Despite torrential rains and flooded tracks, the soldiers pressed forward, embodying the Army’s ethos of placing duty before self.
Courage in the Face of Adversity
On reaching the affected area, the QRT immediately began evacuation operations. Twelve villagers — several of them women and young children — were rescued first, ferried across waterlogged stretches and taken to higher, safer ground.
But the mission was far from over. As night set in and rains continued to lash the desert belt, another group of villagers remained trapped. Recognising the urgency, troops of an armoured regiment from the same brigade joined the effort. In a second wave of operations, they managed to rescue nine more villagers, completing the safe evacuation of all 21 stranded residents.
Joint Effort with Civil Authorities
The entire operation was carried out in close coordination with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Rajasthan. While SDRF teams worked on ground support and logistical arrangements, the Army brought in manpower, mobility, and operational expertise that proved crucial in navigating the treacherous conditions.
Military and civil agencies working shoulder to shoulder ensured that not a single life was lost, despite the immense risks posed by the rains and flooding.
More Than a Rescue – A Symbol of Army’s Role in Civil Support
Though the rescue itself was completed in two days, the mission highlighted a broader truth about the role of the armed forces in India. From Operation Rahat in Uttarakhand’s flash floods of 2013, to cyclone relief in Odisha, to airlift operations in Jammu & Kashmir during floods — the Army has time and again emerged as the first responder during disasters, filling in the critical gaps where civilian resources are overwhelmed.
Barmer’s rescue operation is yet another testament to this tradition of service. For the villagers of Dasuriya, the sight of uniformed soldiers wading through floodwaters to carry children and elders to safety was more than just a rescue — it was reassurance that in the toughest of times, the Army would not abandon them.
Why Barmer Flooding Matters
Barmer district lies close to the India-Pakistan border and is a region more accustomed to drought than flood. However, in recent years, climate change and erratic rainfall patterns have led to unusual flooding events in Rajasthan’s desert belt. Dasuriya’s ordeal reflects this emerging reality, where remote border villages face heightened risks with limited infrastructure to cope with natural disasters.
Analysts note that such incidents underscore the importance of keeping military resources at readiness in the desert sector. While the Army’s primary responsibility is national defence, its proximity and mobility make it a vital player in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) missions.
Voices from the Ground
Villagers described the Army’s intervention as nothing short of life-saving. “We thought we would not make it through the night. Water was rising everywhere, and children were crying in fear. Then the soldiers came — they carried us out with such care. For us, they are like gods,” said one elderly villager who was among those rescued.
Officials too acknowledged the speed and professionalism of the Army. “The quick, prompt, and timely response of the Golden Katar Division displayed grit and resolution, resulting in the saving of precious lives,” said a senior officer.
Looking Ahead
As the rescued families slowly return to normalcy, authorities are expected to carry out an assessment of damage in Dasuriya and neighbouring villages. Relief supplies are being mobilised, while safety checks continue to ensure no further evacuations are required.
For the Indian Army, however, the episode is another reminder of the dual responsibilities it shoulders — protecting the nation’s borders while simultaneously standing as the shield of the people in times of calamity.
In the heart of Barmer’s rains, the Golden Katar Division’s soldiers wrote a story of courage, compassion, and unwavering duty. And for the people of Dasuriya, those 48 hours will forever be remembered as the days when the Army carried hope on its shoulders and delivered them from nature’s fury.

मरुस्थल का बाड़मेर, जिसे प्रायः तपती धूप और सूखे के लिए जाना जाता है, इस बार झमाझम बारिश और बाढ़ के पानी से जूझ रहा था। बाखासर क्षेत्र के दासूरिया गाँव में हालात इतने बिगड़े कि 21 ग्रामीण — जिनमें महिलाएँ और छोटे बच्चे भी शामिल थे — जलभराव के बीच फंसकर जिंदगी और मौत की कगार पर जा पहुँचे।
ऐसे नाजुक क्षणों में भारतीय सेना की गोल्डन कतार डिवीजन ने एक बार फिर साबित कर दिया कि संकट की घड़ी में सेना ही जनता की अंतिम उम्मीद है। 7 और 8 सितम्बर को रैप्टर ब्रिगेड के सैनिकों ने विपरीत परिस्थितियों और मूसलाधार बारिश के बीच हिम्मत दिखाते हुए सभी ग्रामीणों को सुरक्षित बाहर निकाला।
मदद की पुकार और सेना की तेज़ कार्रवाई
यह अभियान तब शुरू हुआ जब श्री भंवरलाल बामनिया, सरपंच बाखासर ने जिला प्रशासन और सेना को आपात संदेश भेजा। लगातार बारिश से रास्ते कट चुके थे, गाँव पानी में डूब रहा था और ग्रामीणों के पास कोई रास्ता नहीं बचा था।
सेना की क्विक रिएक्शन टीम (QRT) तुरंत हरकत में आई। खराब मौसम और कीचड़ भरे रास्तों के बावजूद सैनिक दासूरिया पहुँचे और बचाव कार्य शुरू किया। सबसे पहले 12 ग्रामीणों को सुरक्षित बाहर निकाला गया।
टैंकों से बचाव की ओर
हालात बिगड़ते देख उसी ब्रिगेड की एक बख़्तरबंद रेजिमेंट भी अभियान में उतरी। इसने रातभर ऑपरेशन चलाकर 9 और ग्रामीणों को निकाला। इस तरह कुल 21 ग्रामीणों की जान बचाई गई।
एसडीआरएफ के साथ तालमेल
पूरा बचाव अभियान राजस्थान राज्य आपदा प्रतिक्रिया बल (SDRF) के साथ मिलकर चलाया गया। जहाँ SDRF ने ज़मीनी मदद और राहत समन्वय किया, वहीं सेना ने अपनी गति, अनुशासन और संसाधनों से मिशन को अंजाम तक पहुँचाया। यह तालमेल ही सफलता की कुंजी बना।
सेना का मानवीय चेहरा
यह बचाव केवल एक ऑपरेशन नहीं था बल्कि सेना की मानवीय भूमिका का प्रतीक भी था। जैसे 2013 की उत्तराखंड त्रासदी में ऑपरेशन राहत, या जम्मू-कश्मीर की बाढ़ और ओडिशा के चक्रवात — हर बार सेना ने नागरिकों की ढाल बनकर काम किया है। बाड़मेर का दासूरिया गाँव अब इसी परंपरा का नया अध्याय है।
बदलता हुआ मरुस्थल और नई चुनौतियाँ
बाड़मेर प्रायः सूखे के लिए जाना जाता है, लेकिन हाल के वर्षों में जलवायु परिवर्तन और असामान्य वर्षा ने इस क्षेत्र को भी बाढ़-प्रवण बना दिया है। सीमावर्ती गाँवों की कमजोर आधारभूत सुविधाएँ उन्हें और अधिक संवेदनशील बना देती हैं।
विशेषज्ञ मानते हैं कि ऐसे हालात में सेना की तैनाती न केवल सीमा सुरक्षा के लिए बल्कि मानवीय राहत के लिए भी बेहद अहम है।
ग्रामीणों की भावनाएँ
बचाए गए ग्रामीणों की आँखों में राहत और कृतज्ञता झलक रही थी। एक बुजुर्ग महिला ने कहा,
“हमें लगा हम रात नहीं काट पाएँगे। बच्चे रो रहे थे, पानी बढ़ता जा रहा था। तभी सैनिक आए और हमें कंधों पर उठाकर सुरक्षित जगह ले गए। हमारे लिए ये भगवान जैसे हैं।”
निष्कर्ष
अब जब गाँववाले धीरे-धीरे सामान्य जीवन की ओर लौट रहे हैं, प्रशासन नुकसान का आकलन कर रहा है और राहत पहुँचाई जा रही है। लेकिन दासूरिया के लोगों के लिए 7 और 8 सितम्बर की रातें हमेशा याद रहेंगी, जब सेना ने न सिर्फ उन्हें बचाया बल्कि उम्मीद और जीवन का नया संबल दिया।
बाड़मेर की बारिश में गोल्डन कतार डिवीजन के सैनिकों ने साबित कर दिया कि चाहे सीमा पर दुश्मन से जंग हो या गाँव में आपदा, भारतीय सेना हमेशा नागरिकों की ढाल बनकर खड़ी है।
