Indian Navy Foils Piracy Attempt in Gulf of Aden: INS Trikand Swiftly Secures MV Golden Arsenal, P-8I Joins Anti-Piracy Mission
Mission-Deployed Indian Warship Demonstrates India’s Maritime Reach and Commitment to Securing Global Shipping Lanes
The Indian Navy once again demonstrated its operational readiness, rapid response capability and unwavering commitment to maritime security after mission-deployed stealth frigate INS Trikand successfully responded to a piracy attempt against the merchant vessel MV Golden Arsenal in the strategically important Gulf of Aden. The swift and coordinated operation not only prevented a possible hijacking but also ensured the safety of all 21 crew members onboard, including one Indian national, reaffirming India’s growing role as a leading security provider in the Indian Ocean Region.
The piracy incident occurred on 1 July 2026, when MV Golden Arsenal, a St. Vincent and the Grenadines-flagged bulk carrier, was transiting from Aden, Yemen. While sailing approximately 300 nautical miles east-northeast of Djibouti, the vessel came under an attempted pirate attack. The ship immediately transmitted a distress report through the Information Fusion Centre–Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR), a critical maritime information-sharing platform that enables rapid coordination among regional maritime forces.
Acting on the alert without delay, the Indian Navy directed INS Trikand, already deployed in the Gulf of Aden as part of India’s ongoing maritime security mission, to intercept and assist the merchant vessel. The immediate deployment highlighted the Navy’s constant surveillance and readiness to respond to emergencies in one of the world’s busiest and most strategically significant shipping corridors.
According to initial reports received by the Indian Navy, the merchant vessel had sustained damage to its bridge superstructure and adjoining compartments during the attempted pirate attack. Although the ship suffered structural damage, the crew acted with remarkable discipline by immediately following anti-piracy procedures. All 21 crew members, including one Indian citizen, secured themselves inside the vessel’s fortified citadel, a protected compartment specifically designed to safeguard crews during pirate attacks. The Indian Navy confirmed that every crew member remained safe throughout the incident.
On the morning of 2 July 2026, a specialised boarding team from INS Trikand boarded MV Golden Arsenal to sanitise the vessel and conduct a comprehensive security inspection. Indian Navy personnel meticulously searched every accessible section of the ship to ensure that no pirates had managed to board or remain hidden onboard.
Following the extensive search, no suspicious personnel or hostile elements were found aboard the vessel. Once the ship was declared secure, the crew safely emerged from the citadel and began assessing the extent of the damage alongside Indian Navy specialists. The joint assessment enabled the merchant vessel to prepare for the safe continuation of its voyage.
To strengthen maritime surveillance during the operation, the Indian Navy also deployed a P-8I Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft. The aircraft carried out extensive aerial reconnaissance and surveillance over the surrounding waters, significantly enhancing maritime domain awareness while ensuring that no pirate skiffs or suspicious vessels remained in the vicinity. The integration of sea-based and air-based assets showcased the Indian Navy’s network-centric operational capability and its ability to execute coordinated anti-piracy missions across vast maritime spaces.
After sanitising the vessel and eliminating the immediate threat, the Indian Navy officially concluded its anti-piracy operation. With the danger neutralised, MV Golden Arsenal resumed its scheduled voyage safely.
The successful operation once again highlights India’s expanding role in protecting international sea lanes that carry a substantial portion of global trade and energy supplies. The Gulf of Aden remains vulnerable to piracy despite a decline in attacks over recent years, making the continuous presence of capable naval forces essential for ensuring uninterrupted commercial shipping.
Over the past several years, the Indian Navy has significantly intensified its anti-piracy deployments across the Arabian Sea, Gulf of Aden and the wider Indian Ocean Region. Mission-deployed warships routinely escort merchant vessels, respond to distress calls, conduct surveillance operations and provide immediate assistance to ships of various nationalities facing security threats.
The operation by INS Trikand reflects India’s commitment to safeguarding freedom of navigation, protecting global maritime commerce and ensuring the safety of seafarers irrespective of their nationality. As geopolitical competition and non-traditional maritime threats continue to evolve, such rapid-response missions reinforce India’s position as a reliable maritime security partner and a responsible net security provider across the Indian Ocean Region.

भारतीय नौसेना की त्वरित कार्रवाई से टला बड़ा समुद्री संकट, 21 चालक दल के सदस्यों की जान बची, हिंद महासागर क्षेत्र में भारत की समुद्री सुरक्षा क्षमता फिर हुई साबित
भारतीय नौसेना ने एक बार फिर यह साबित कर दिया है कि हिंद महासागर क्षेत्र में समुद्री सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने के लिए वह हर समय सतर्क, सक्षम और पूरी तरह तैयार है। अदन की खाड़ी में मिशन पर तैनात भारतीय नौसेना के अत्याधुनिक स्टील्थ फ्रिगेट आईएनएस त्रिकंद ने 1 जुलाई 2026 को समुद्री डकैती के एक गंभीर प्रयास का सफलतापूर्वक जवाब देते हुए एमवी गोल्डन आर्सेनल नामक व्यापारी जहाज को सुरक्षित बचाया। भारतीय नौसेना की त्वरित और पेशेवर कार्रवाई के कारण संभावित अपहरण और बड़े समुद्री संकट को समय रहते टाल दिया गया तथा जहाज पर मौजूद सभी 21 चालक दल के सदस्य सुरक्षित रहे।
यह घटना उस समय सामने आई जब सेंट विंसेंट एंड द ग्रेनाडाइन्स के ध्वज वाला बल्क कैरियर एमवी गोल्डन आर्सेनल यमन के अदन से अपनी निर्धारित समुद्री यात्रा पर था। जहाज जब जिबूती से लगभग 300 समुद्री मील पूर्व-उत्तर-पूर्व क्षेत्र में पहुंचा, तभी समुद्री लुटेरों ने उस पर हमला करने का प्रयास किया। जहाज ने तत्काल संकट संदेश भेजा, जिसे इन्फॉर्मेशन फ्यूजन सेंटर–इंडियन ओशन रीजन (IFC-IOR) के माध्यम से साझा किया गया।
सूचना मिलते ही भारतीय नौसेना ने बिना किसी देरी के उस क्षेत्र में पहले से तैनात युद्धपोत आईएनएस त्रिकंद को जहाज की सहायता के लिए रवाना कर दिया। यह कार्रवाई भारतीय नौसेना की उच्च स्तरीय परिचालन क्षमता, वास्तविक समय की समुद्री निगरानी तथा त्वरित प्रतिक्रिया प्रणाली का उत्कृष्ट उदाहरण मानी जा रही है।
प्रारंभिक जानकारी के अनुसार समुद्री लुटेरों के हमले के प्रयास के दौरान जहाज के ब्रिज सुपरस्ट्रक्चर तथा उससे जुड़े कुछ हिस्सों को नुकसान पहुंचा। हालांकि चालक दल ने समुद्री सुरक्षा मानकों का पालन करते हुए तुरंत जहाज के सुरक्षित कक्ष सिटाडेल में शरण ले ली। जहाज पर कुल 21 चालक दल के सदस्य मौजूद थे, जिनमें एक भारतीय नागरिक भी शामिल था। भारतीय नौसेना ने पुष्टि की कि सभी चालक दल के सदस्य पूरी तरह सुरक्षित हैं।
2 जुलाई 2026 की सुबह आईएनएस त्रिकंद की विशेष बोर्डिंग टीम ने एमवी गोल्डन आर्सेनल पर चढ़कर पूरे जहाज की व्यापक तलाशी ली। नौसेना के प्रशिक्षित कमांडो और विशेषज्ञों ने जहाज के प्रत्येक हिस्से की सावधानीपूर्वक जांच की ताकि यह सुनिश्चित किया जा सके कि कहीं कोई समुद्री लुटेरा जहाज पर मौजूद तो नहीं है।
गहन तलाशी के बाद जहाज पर कोई भी संदिग्ध व्यक्ति नहीं मिला। इसके बाद जहाज को पूरी तरह सुरक्षित घोषित किया गया और चालक दल सुरक्षित रूप से सिटाडेल से बाहर आया। भारतीय नौसेना के विशेषज्ञों ने चालक दल के साथ मिलकर जहाज को हुए नुकसान का विस्तृत आकलन किया तथा आगे की सुरक्षित यात्रा के लिए आवश्यक निरीक्षण पूरा किया।
इस पूरे अभियान को और अधिक प्रभावी बनाने के लिए भारतीय नौसेना ने अपने अत्याधुनिक पी-8आई लॉन्ग रेंज मैरीटाइम पेट्रोल एयरक्राफ्ट को भी अभियान में शामिल किया। विमान ने पूरे समुद्री क्षेत्र में हवाई निगरानी और टोही अभियान चलाया, जिससे आसपास किसी भी संदिग्ध नौका या समुद्री लुटेरों की गतिविधि पर लगातार नजर रखी जा सकी। समुद्र और आसमान दोनों माध्यमों से चलाया गया यह समन्वित अभियान भारतीय नौसेना की नेटवर्क-केंद्रित युद्ध क्षमता और आधुनिक समुद्री निगरानी प्रणाली का उत्कृष्ट उदाहरण रहा।
जब यह पूरी तरह सुनिश्चित हो गया कि जहाज पर कोई खतरा शेष नहीं है, तब भारतीय नौसेना ने अपने समुद्री डकैती-रोधी अभियान को सफलतापूर्वक समाप्त घोषित किया। इसके बाद एमवी गोल्डन आर्सेनल ने अपनी निर्धारित यात्रा पुनः शुरू कर दी।
अदन की खाड़ी विश्व के सबसे व्यस्त समुद्री व्यापारिक मार्गों में से एक है, जहां से प्रतिदिन बड़ी संख्या में तेल, ऊर्जा संसाधन और अंतरराष्ट्रीय व्यापारिक जहाज गुजरते हैं। यद्यपि पिछले कुछ वर्षों में समुद्री डकैती की घटनाओं में कमी आई है, फिर भी यह क्षेत्र अभी भी संवेदनशील माना जाता है। ऐसे में भारतीय नौसेना की निरंतर तैनाती वैश्विक समुद्री व्यापार की सुरक्षा के लिए अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभा रही है।
पिछले कुछ वर्षों में भारतीय नौसेना ने अरब सागर, अदन की खाड़ी और व्यापक हिंद महासागर क्षेत्र में अपनी समुद्री सुरक्षा गतिविधियों को काफी मजबूत किया है। भारतीय युद्धपोत लगातार व्यापारी जहाजों को सुरक्षा प्रदान कर रहे हैं, संकट संकेतों पर तत्काल प्रतिक्रिया दे रहे हैं, समुद्री निगरानी अभियान चला रहे हैं और विभिन्न देशों के जहाजों को आवश्यकता पड़ने पर सहायता उपलब्ध करा रहे हैं।
आईएनएस त्रिकंद का यह सफल अभियान केवल एक व्यापारी जहाज को सुरक्षित बचाने तक सीमित नहीं है, बल्कि यह भारत की उस व्यापक समुद्री रणनीति का भी प्रतीक है जिसके तहत देश वैश्विक समुद्री व्यापार मार्गों की सुरक्षा, नौवहन की स्वतंत्रता, समुद्री डकैती के प्रभावी मुकाबले तथा सभी देशों के नाविकों की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने के लिए एक जिम्मेदार और विश्वसनीय समुद्री शक्ति के रूप में अपनी भूमिका लगातार मजबूत कर रहा है। भारत एक बार फिर यह संदेश देने में सफल रहा है कि हिंद महासागर क्षेत्र में समुद्री सुरक्षा से जुड़े किसी भी खतरे का जवाब देने के लिए भारतीय नौसेना हर समय तैयार है।
