International Women’s Day 2025: Promoting Rights, Equality & Empowerment at Bathinda Military Station
Bathinda – In a significant celebration of International Women’s Day 2025, Bathinda Military Station, under the aegis of Chetak Corps, organized a series of meaningful events aimed at empowering women and girls through education, recognition, and awareness. The event, themed “For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, Empowerment”, focused on crucial issues such as menstrual health management, literacy, and excellence in various fields, reinforcing the commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Lecture on Menstrual Health Management: Breaking Taboos, Spreading Awareness
A key highlight of the day was an insightful lecture on Menstrual Health Management (MHM), aimed at raising awareness about menstrual hygiene, debunking myths, and promoting open discussions on a topic that is often shrouded in stigma.
The session was attended by women officers, lady spouses of military personnel, young girls, and Anganwadi workers, who actively participated in discussions regarding menstrual hygiene, reproductive health, and sustainable menstrual products.
A panel of medical professionals, including gynecologists from the military hospital, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of menstrual health in overall well-being. They highlighted the need for access to proper sanitary facilities, the role of nutrition in maintaining hormonal balance, and the impact of menstrual health on women’s daily lives.
Dr. Neha Kapoor, a senior gynecologist, stated, “Menstruation is a natural biological process, yet in many parts of the country, it remains a subject of social taboo. Through education and awareness, we can break these barriers and ensure that every girl has access to the resources and knowledge needed to manage her menstrual health with dignity.”
The lecture also focused on sustainable menstrual products such as biodegradable pads and menstrual cups, promoting eco-friendly alternatives to traditional sanitary products. Young girls and women were encouraged to ask questions, fostering an open and supportive environment for discussion.
Recognizing Excellence: Felicitation of Literary & AWWA Award Winners
Following the awareness session, the event moved to the much-anticipated felicitation ceremony where outstanding women were recognized for their exceptional contributions. Winners of the Literary Awards and AWWA (Army Wives Welfare Association) Awards of Excellence were honored in the presence of senior military officials, dignitaries, and guests.
The Literary Awards recognized women for their excellence in writing, poetry, and journalism, celebrating their ability to articulate thoughts, tell compelling stories, and bring societal issues to light through their words.
Among the awardees was Mrs. Ananya Rao, whose powerful essay on “Women’s Role in Nation-Building” earned her the top honor. Speaking on the occasion, she said, “Writing has given me a platform to express the struggles and triumphs of women. I believe words have the power to inspire change, and today, I feel encouraged to continue using my voice for women’s empowerment.”
The AWWA Awards of Excellence were presented to Army wives who have made significant contributions in various fields such as entrepreneurship, education, social work, and arts. These awards highlighted the resilience and strength of military wives who balance family responsibilities while excelling in their respective domains.
One of the notable awardees, Mrs. Kavita Sharma, was recognized for her work in skill development programs for women in military cantonments. “Empowerment begins when we uplift each other. Through skill-building initiatives, we can ensure that women, especially those from economically weaker backgrounds, achieve financial independence and self-confidence,” she remarked.
