Israeli Air Force Strikes Houthi-Controlled Sanaa, Multiple Casualties Feared

The Middle East witnessed a fresh wave of escalation on Sunday as the Israeli Air Force launched a series of powerful airstrikes against Yemen’s Houthi-controlled capital, Sanaa. Among the prime targets was the Presidential Palace complex, long regarded as the nerve centre of Houthi power. Initial reports suggest heavy damage to government and military facilities, with multiple casualties feared.
Residents of Sanaa described the scenes of chaos as several explosions rocked central districts of the city. Buildings shook violently, windows shattered, and columns of black smoke rose above the skyline. Ambulances and emergency vehicles rushed through crowded streets as panic gripped the civilian population.
Background of the Escalation
The strikes came in direct response to a provocative Houthi move two days earlier, when the group launched a cluster munition missile toward Israel. This marked the first use of such weaponry by the Houthis since 2023 and was viewed in Tel Aviv as a grave escalation of hostilities. Israel, which has repeatedly vowed to protect its citizens and regional security interests, wasted no time in responding with aerial retaliation.
Targets and Damage
Apart from the Presidential Palace, strikes were reported near a military academy, fuel storage depots, electricity facilities, and municipal buildings in the heart of the city. Witnesses described widespread destruction, with fire spreading across fuel stations and damage to civilian housing in surrounding areas.
Casualty Reports
Although exact figures are not yet available, local health officials confirmed that several people had been killed and dozens injured. Medical workers struggled to reach some of the worst-hit neighborhoods due to damaged roads and ongoing air activity.
Historical Context
Since 2023, the Iran-backed Houthis have repeatedly targeted Israel and Red Sea shipping lanes with missiles and drones, declaring solidarity with Gaza. Israel, in return, has carried out multiple retaliatory strikes on Yemeni infrastructure, including airports, seaports, and energy installations. In May 2025, Israeli jets bombed Sanaa’s international airport, crippling Houthi logistical capabilities.
The latest attack further deepens the cycle of violence and may provoke another wave of Houthi counterattacks, possibly targeting Red Sea shipping lanes or Israel itself.
Diplomatic Reactions
While the Israeli government has yet to release an official statement, military analysts believe the strikes were meant to send a clear deterrent message not only to the Houthis but also to their backers in Tehran. Regional observers now warn that the conflict could spill over, dragging in more actors and threatening the fragile balance of security across the Middle East.
The people of Sanaa, however, remain caught in the middle of this confrontation, bearing the brunt of an intensifying war that shows no signs of de-escalation.

स्थानीय नागरिकों ने बताया कि एक के बाद एक तेज़ धमाकों से पूरा शहर हिल उठा। कई घरों की खिड़कियाँ चटक गईं और आसमान में काले धुएं के गुबार उठने लगे। शहर की सड़कों पर एम्बुलेंस और आपातकालीन गाड़ियाँ लगातार दौड़ती रहीं, जबकि लोग भय और अफ़रा-तफ़री में इधर-उधर भागते दिखाई दिए।
तनाव की पृष्ठभूमि
दो दिन पहले हौथी विद्रोहियों ने इजरायल की ओर क्लस्टर वारहेड मिसाइल दागी थी। 2023 के बाद यह पहली बार था जब हौथियों ने इस तरह का खतरनाक हथियार इस्तेमाल किया। इजरायल ने इसे सीधी चुनौती माना और जवाबी कार्रवाई में सना पर यह हमला किया।
हमले के प्रमुख निशाने
राष्ट्रपति भवन के अलावा, हवाई हमलों में एक सैन्य अकादमी, ईंधन भंडारण केंद्र, बिजली आपूर्ति ठिकाने और नगर निगम भवन भी प्रभावित हुए। चश्मदीदों ने बताया कि ईंधन डिपो में आग लग गई जिससे कई इलाकों में भारी तबाही मच गई। आसपास के रिहायशी इलाकों में भी नुकसान की खबरें हैं।
हानि और हताहत
स्वास्थ्यकर्मियों ने बताया कि कई लोग मारे गए हैं और दर्जनों घायल हुए हैं। लेकिन सही संख्या अब तक सामने नहीं आई है। कई घायलों को अस्पताल पहुंचाना मुश्किल हो रहा है क्योंकि मुख्य सड़कें मलबे से ढकी पड़ी हैं और माहौल लगातार तनावपूर्ण है।
रणनीतिक पृष्ठभूमि
हौथी विद्रोही लंबे समय से ईरान के समर्थन से इजरायल और लाल सागर के जहाज़ी रास्तों को निशाना बनाते रहे हैं। गाज़ा के समर्थन में वे बार-बार मिसाइल और ड्रोन हमले करते रहे हैं। वहीं, इजरायल समय-समय पर हवाई हमले कर उनकी क्षमता को कमजोर करने की कोशिश करता रहा है। मई 2025 में भी इजरायल ने सना के अंतरराष्ट्रीय हवाईअड्डे को निशाना बनाया था।
ताज़ा हमला इस संघर्ष को और गहरा करेगा और संभावना है कि हौथी इसके जवाब में फिर से इजरायल या लाल सागर के समुद्री मार्गों पर हमले तेज़ कर दें।
राजनयिक प्रभाव
इजरायल सरकार ने अभी तक आधिकारिक बयान जारी नहीं किया है, लेकिन विश्लेषकों का मानना है कि यह कार्रवाई हौथियों और उनके समर्थक ईरान दोनों को सख्त संदेश देने के लिए की गई है। मध्य पूर्व के हालात पहले से ही बेहद नाजुक हैं और अब इस घटना से हालात और अस्थिर हो सकते हैं।
सबसे बड़ा खामियाज़ा फिलहाल सना की आम जनता झेल रही है, जो इस जंग का बोझ अपने सिर पर महसूस कर रही है।
