Lieutenant General AK Pundir brings with him decades of distinguished military service across diverse operational environments. Throughout his career, he has held several command, staff, and instructional appointments, earning a reputation as a highly professional, operationally sound, and mission-focused military leader.
His appointment comes at a time when the Indian Army continues to accelerate modernization under its transformation roadmap, with increasing emphasis on indigenous technologies, integrated operations, battlefield digitization, artificial intelligence, surveillance capabilities, and next-generation combat systems.

Former General Officer Commanding of Bikaner’s 24 RAPID ‘Ranbankura Division’
For Rajasthan and particularly Bikaner, Lieutenant General AK Pundir’s appointment carries special significance. Before assuming several senior appointments, he served as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the prestigious 24 RAPID (Reorganised Army Plains Infantry Division) – Ranbankura Division, headquartered in Bikaner.
During his tenure, the formation maintained a high level of operational readiness while participating in intensive field exercises, combat preparedness initiatives, and integrated operational planning. The division, one of the Indian Army’s important strike-capable formations in the western theatre, has traditionally played a key role in maintaining readiness along India’s western front.
His leadership in Bikaner earned appreciation for professional excellence, troop welfare, operational efficiency, and continuous focus on combat preparedness.

The role of Director General of Infantry has acquired even greater importance as the nature of warfare continues to evolve rapidly. राजस्थान, विशेषकर बीकानेर के लिए लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल ए.के. पुंडीर का यह नया दायित्व विशेष महत्व रखता है। वे इससे पहले बीकानेर स्थित प्रतिष्ठित 24 रैपिड (Reorganised Army Plains Infantry Division) ‘रणबांकुरा डिवीजन’ के जनरल ऑफिसर कमांडिंग (GOC) रह चुके हैं। उनके नेतृत्व में डिवीजन ने पश्चिमी थिएटर में उच्च स्तर की ऑपरेशनल तैयारियों को बनाए रखा। बड़े युद्धाभ्यास, संयुक्त सैन्य प्रशिक्षण, युद्धक क्षमता में वृद्धि और सैनिकों के मनोबल को मजबूत बनाने में उनके नेतृत्व की महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका रही। 24 रैपिड भारतीय सेना की पश्चिमी मोर्चे पर महत्वपूर्ण युद्धक संरचनाओं में से एक मानी जाती है और रेगिस्तानी क्षेत्र में इसकी भूमिका अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है।
