Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh’s military career represents the journey of an officer who steadily rose through the ranks based on professional competence, operational achievements, and exemplary leadership. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy at Khadakwasla and the prestigious Indian Military Academy in Dehradun, he was commissioned into the 19 Madras Regiment in December 1986. Over the next four decades, he built an extraordinary service profile encompassing virtually every dimension of military command, ranging from counter-insurgency operations and conventional warfare to strategic planning, military diplomacy, force development, and institutional leadership. His career mirrors the evolution of the modern Indian Army itself, adapting continuously to changing security challenges while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism.

Throughout his career, he commanded formations deployed in some of India’s most operationally demanding theatres. His command appointments included leading an infantry battalion in intense counter-insurgency operations in Jammu & Kashmir, commanding an infantry brigade along the volatile Line of Control, leading an infantry division within the Desert Strike Corps responsible for western sector offensive operations, and commanding a Corps deployed along the Line of Control during active counter-insurgency missions. He served as Colonel General Staff (Information Warfare) in an operational Corps Headquarters in Jammu & Kashmir, followed by appointments as Colonel General Staff (Operations/Air), Brigadier General Staff (Operations), Major General General Staff (Operations), and Chief of Staff at Command Headquarters. Each of these assignments required the integration of intelligence, operational planning, logistics, joint operations, and strategic decision-making. Perhaps most notably, he also served as the Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff responsible for Policy, Planning and Force Development, where he played an important role in shaping long-term capability development and enhancing jointness among the three armed services.
A Distinguished Mentor Dedicated to Professional Military Education
Apart from his operational responsibilities, Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh contributed significantly to military education and professional development. As a Platoon Commander and Instructor at the Indian Military Academy, he was responsible for grooming future generations of Army officers, instilling values of discipline, courage, leadership, and military ethics. His appointment as Directing Staff Coordinator at the Indian Military Training Team (IMTRAT) in Bhutan further strengthened India’s long-standing military cooperation with one of its closest strategic partners. Considerable emphasis was placed on technological adaptation, operational flexibility, intelligence integration, precision engagement, logistics optimisation, and rapid mobilisation. His leadership ensured that the Command remained fully prepared to respond effectively across the entire spectrum of conventional and hybrid warfare.
Operation SINDOOR: Strategic Leadership During a Critical Phase
Among the defining achievements of Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh’s tenure was his strategic guidance during Operation SINDOOR. As India responded to evolving security challenges, Sapta Shakti Command played a crucial role in maintaining operational preparedness along the western front. Under his direction, the Command continuously refined its operational concepts, enhanced surveillance capabilities, strengthened coordination among combat arms, and ensured high levels of combat readiness. In 2026, he was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), acknowledging his exceptionally distinguished service of the highest order. Earlier, he received the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) in 2024, the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) in 2019, and the Yudh Seva Medal (YSM) in 2015. These prestigious decorations collectively reflect decades of extraordinary leadership, operational excellence, strategic vision, and unwavering dedication to national service.
Colonel of the Madras Regiment and Custodian of a Proud Legacy
Since January 1, 2021, Lieutenant General Manjinder Singh also served as the Colonel of the Madras Regiment, one of the oldest and most decorated infantry regiments of the Indian Army. लगभग चार दशक की गौरवशाली सैन्य सेवा के बाद लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल मंजिंदर सिंह ने सौंपी सप्त शक्ति कमांड की कमान, ऑपरेशन सिंदूर, सैन्य आधुनिकीकरण और रणनीतिक नेतृत्व की अमिट विरासत छोड़ हुए सेवानिवृत्त
जयपुर में एक गौरवशाली सैन्य अध्याय का हुआ समापन
भारतीय सेना के इतिहास में 30 जून 2026 का दिन एक महत्वपूर्ण पड़ाव के रूप में दर्ज हो गया, जब जयपुर स्थित साउथ वेस्टर्न कमांड (सप्त शक्ति कमांड) के जनरल ऑफिसर कमांडिंग-इन-चीफ लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल मंजिंदर सिंह ने औपचारिक रूप से अपनी कमान सौंपते हुए लगभग चार दशक लंबे गौरवशाली सैन्य जीवन का समापन किया। यह केवल एक वरिष्ठ सैन्य अधिकारी की सेवानिवृत्ति नहीं थी, बल्कि भारतीय सेना के एक ऐसे अध्याय का समापन था, जिसने अपने नेतृत्व, दूरदर्शिता, रणनीतिक सोच, युद्ध कौशल और सैनिकों के प्रति समर्पण से एक पूरी पीढ़ी को प्रभावित किया। कमान छोड़ने से पहले उन्होंने जयपुर मिलिट्री स्टेशन स्थित प्रेरणा स्थल पर देश के वीर शहीदों को श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित कर यह संदेश दिया कि भारतीय सेना की सबसे बड़ी शक्ति उसके वीर जवानों का बलिदान और राष्ट्र के प्रति उनकी निष्ठा है।
एनडीए से शुरू हुआ सफर, भारतीय सेना के शीर्ष नेतृत्व तक पहुंचने की प्रेरणादायक कहानी
लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल मंजिंदर सिंह का सैन्य जीवन भारतीय सेना के प्रत्येक युवा अधिकारी के लिए प्रेरणा का स्रोत है। राष्ट्रीय रक्षा अकादमी, खड़कवासला तथा भारतीय सैन्य अकादमी, देहरादून के पूर्व छात्र रहे लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल मंजिंदर सिंह दिसंबर 1986 में 19 मद्रास रेजिमेंट में कमीशन हुए थे। इसके बाद उन्होंने कभी पीछे मुड़कर नहीं देखा। लगभग चार दशकों की सेवा के दौरान उन्होंने भारतीय सेना के लगभग हर महत्वपूर्ण क्षेत्र में अपनी नेतृत्व क्षमता का परिचय दिया। चाहे सीमाओं की सुरक्षा हो, आतंकवाद विरोधी अभियान हों, सामरिक योजना निर्माण हो, सैन्य प्रशिक्षण हो या भविष्य की युद्ध रणनीतियों का विकास—हर क्षेत्र में उनका योगदान अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण रहा। उनका पूरा सैन्य करियर भारतीय सेना के बदलते स्वरूप और आधुनिक युद्ध प्रणाली के विकास का साक्षी भी रहा।
जम्मू-कश्मीर से लेकर पश्चिमी सीमा तक हर चुनौतीपूर्ण मोर्चे पर निभाई निर्णायक भूमिका
लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल मंजिंदर सिंह का सबसे बड़ा परिचय उनकी व्यापक फील्ड कमांड रही। उन्होंने जम्मू-कश्मीर में आतंकवाद विरोधी अभियानों के दौरान अत्यंत संवेदनशील परिस्थितियों में अपनी बटालियन का नेतृत्व किया। इसके बाद उन्होंने नियंत्रण रेखा (एलओसी) पर एक इन्फैंट्री ब्रिगेड की कमान संभाली, जहां हर दिन दुश्मन की गतिविधियों पर पैनी नजर रखते हुए सैनिकों का मनोबल बनाए रखना सबसे बड़ी चुनौती होती है। उन्होंने डेजर्ट स्ट्राइक कोर के अंतर्गत एक इन्फैंट्री डिवीजन का सफल नेतृत्व किया, जो पश्चिमी रेगिस्तानी क्षेत्र में भारतीय सेना की आक्रामक क्षमता का महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा माना जाता है। इसके अतिरिक्त उन्होंने जम्मू-कश्मीर में एलओसी पर तैनात एक कोर की भी कमान संभाली, जहां आतंकवाद विरोधी अभियानों के साथ-साथ सीमा सुरक्षा की दोहरी जिम्मेदारी रहती है। इन सभी नियुक्तियों ने उन्हें भारत की बहुआयामी सुरक्षा चुनौतियों की गहरी समझ प्रदान की।

फील्ड कमांड के अलावा लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल मंजिंदर सिंह ने कई अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण स्टाफ नियुक्तियों में भी अपनी असाधारण क्षमता का प्रदर्शन किया। उन्होंने कर्नल जनरल स्टाफ (इन्फॉर्मेशन वॉरफेयर), कर्नल जनरल स्टाफ (ऑपरेशन्स/एयर), ब्रिगेडियर जनरल स्टाफ (ऑपरेशन्स), मेजर जनरल जनरल स्टाफ (ऑपरेशन्स) तथा कमांड मुख्यालय में चीफ ऑफ स्टाफ जैसे महत्वपूर्ण पदों पर कार्य किया। इन सभी पदों पर उनकी भूमिका केवल सैन्य संचालन तक सीमित नहीं थी बल्कि भविष्य की रणनीतियों का निर्माण, संयुक्त सैन्य अभियानों की योजना, खुफिया सूचनाओं का समन्वय, संसाधनों का बेहतर उपयोग तथा युद्धकालीन तैयारियों को मजबूत बनाना भी उनकी जिम्मेदारी का हिस्सा था। उन्होंने इंटीग्रेटेड डिफेंस स्टाफ में पॉलिसी, प्लानिंग एंड फोर्स डेवलपमेंट के डिप्टी चीफ के रूप में भी देश की दीर्घकालिक सैन्य रणनीति को मजबूत बनाने में महत्वपूर्ण योगदान दिया।
भारतीय सेना के भावी अधिकारियों को तैयार करने में निभाई गुरु की भूमिका
लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल मंजिंदर सिंह केवल एक सफल कमांडर ही नहीं बल्कि उत्कृष्ट सैन्य प्रशिक्षक भी रहे। भारतीय सैन्य अकादमी में प्लाटून कमांडर एवं इंस्ट्रक्टर के रूप में उन्होंने सैकड़ों युवा कैडेटों को सैन्य नेतृत्व, अनुशासन, युद्ध कौशल और राष्ट्रभक्ति का प्रशिक्षण दिया। उनके प्रशिक्षण से निकले अनेक अधिकारी आज भारतीय सेना की विभिन्न इकाइयों में महत्वपूर्ण जिम्मेदारियां निभा रहे हैं। इसके अतिरिक्त उन्होंने भूटान में इंडियन मिलिट्री ट्रेनिंग टीम (आईएमटीआरएटी) में डायरेक्टिंग स्टाफ कोऑर्डिनेटर के रूप में भारत-भूटान रक्षा सहयोग को और मजबूत किया। उनकी यह भूमिका भारत की सैन्य कूटनीति और क्षेत्रीय सुरक्षा सहयोग के दृष्टिकोण से भी अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण रही।
आर्मी ट्रेनिंग कमांड में आधुनिक युद्ध सिद्धांतों को नई दिशा दी
सप्त शक्ति कमांड की कमान संभालने से पहले लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल मंजिंदर सिंह शिमला स्थित आर्मी ट्रेनिंग कमांड (एआरटीआरएसी) के जनरल ऑफिसर कमांडिंग-इन-चीफ रहे। इस दौरान उन्होंने भारतीय सेना के प्रशिक्षण ढांचे को भविष्य की आवश्यकताओं के अनुरूप विकसित करने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई। उनके नेतृत्व में कृत्रिम बुद्धिमत्ता, ड्रोन तकनीक, साइबर युद्ध, इलेक्ट्रॉनिक युद्ध, मल्टी-डोमेन ऑपरेशन, नेटवर्क आधारित युद्ध प्रणाली और संयुक्त सैन्य संचालन जैसे आधुनिक विषयों को प्रशिक्षण प्रणाली में और अधिक प्रभावी ढंग से शामिल किया गया। यह अनुभव आगे चलकर सप्त शक्ति कमांड के आधुनिकीकरण में भी बेहद उपयोगी साबित हुआ।
सप्त शक्ति कमांड को आधुनिक, तकनीकी रूप से सक्षम और मिशन रेडी सैन्य बल में बदला
1 जुलाई 2024 को जब लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल मंजिंदर सिंह ने सप्त शक्ति कमांड की कमान संभाली, तब भारतीय सेना तेजी से तकनीकी परिवर्तन के दौर से गुजर रही थी। उन्होंने इस परिवर्तन को केवल सिद्धांतों तक सीमित नहीं रहने दिया बल्कि उसे जमीन पर लागू किया। उनके नेतृत्व में कमांड ने नवीनतम सैन्य सिद्धांतों को अपनाया, विभिन्न फॉर्मेशनों के बीच तालमेल को मजबूत किया, नई रणनीतियों, आधुनिक युद्ध तकनीकों और उन्नत ऑपरेशनल प्रक्रियाओं को विकसित किया। उन्होंने युद्ध की बदलती प्रकृति को ध्यान में रखते हुए तकनीक आधारित संचालन, तेज निर्णय क्षमता, बेहतर निगरानी, आधुनिक हथियार प्रणालियों और संयुक्त सैन्य समन्वय पर विशेष बल दिया। परिणामस्वरूप सप्त शक्ति कमांड आज भारतीय सेना की सबसे सक्षम, आधुनिक और मिशन रेडी फॉर्मेशनों में गिनी जाती है।
ऑपरेशन सिंदूर के दौरान रणनीतिक नेतृत्व ने बढ़ाई कमांड की मारक क्षमता
लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल मंजिंदर सिंह के कार्यकाल की सबसे महत्वपूर्ण उपलब्धियों में ऑपरेशन सिंदूर के दौरान उनका रणनीतिक नेतृत्व शामिल रहा। इस अभियान के दौरान पश्चिमी सीमा पर भारतीय सेना की तैयारियों, संसाधनों के प्रभावी उपयोग, सैनिकों के मनोबल और ऑपरेशनल तालमेल को नई ऊंचाइयों तक पहुंचाया गया। उनके मार्गदर्शन में सप्त शक्ति कमांड ने अपनी युद्ध क्षमता को और अधिक मजबूत बनाया तथा आधुनिक युद्ध के अनुरूप नई रणनीतियों और प्रक्रियाओं को अपनाया। उन्होंने यह सुनिश्चित किया कि कमांड किसी भी परिस्थिति में त्वरित, प्रभावी और निर्णायक सैन्य कार्रवाई करने के लिए पूरी तरह तैयार रहे। उनकी दूरदर्शी सोच ने कमांड को आधुनिक, घातक, तकनीकी रूप से सक्षम और भविष्य की चुनौतियों का सामना करने वाली सैन्य शक्ति के रूप में विकसित किया।
सैन्य उत्कृष्टता के लिए मिले देश के सर्वोच्च सेवा सम्मान
राष्ट्र सेवा के प्रति उनके अद्वितीय समर्पण और उत्कृष्ट नेतृत्व को देखते हुए भारत सरकार ने उन्हें कई प्रतिष्ठित सैन्य अलंकरणों से सम्मानित किया। वर्ष 2026 में उन्हें परम विशिष्ट सेवा पदक (पीवीएसएम), वर्ष 2024 में अति विशिष्ट सेवा पदक (एवीएसएम), वर्ष 2019 में विशिष्ट सेवा पदक (वीएसएम) तथा वर्ष 2015 में युद्ध सेवा पदक (वाईएसएम) से सम्मानित किया गया। ये सम्मान केवल उनके व्यक्तिगत योगदान का प्रतीक नहीं हैं, बल्कि उन असंख्य सैनिकों के सामूहिक प्रयासों की भी पहचान हैं जिनका उन्होंने वर्षों तक नेतृत्व किया।
मद्रास रेजिमेंट के कर्नल के रूप में निभाई गौरवशाली जिम्मेदारी
1 जनवरी 2021 से लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल मंजिंदर सिंह मद्रास रेजिमेंट के कर्नल ऑफ द रेजिमेंट भी रहे। भारतीय सेना की सबसे पुरानी और गौरवशाली रेजिमेंटों में शामिल मद्रास रेजिमेंट की परंपराओं, सैनिक कल्याण, प्रशिक्षण और युद्ध क्षमता को मजबूत बनाने में उन्होंने महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई। उन्होंने रेजिमेंट की गौरवशाली विरासत को आगे बढ़ाते हुए नई पीढ़ी के सैनिकों को अनुशासन, निष्ठा और उत्कृष्टता का संदेश दिया।
विदाई के क्षणों में सैनिकों, वीर नारियों, पूर्व सैनिकों और परिवारों के प्रति जताया आभार
कमान छोड़ते समय लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल मंजिंदर सिंह भावुक दिखाई दिए। उन्होंने सप्त शक्ति कमांड के सभी अधिकारियों, जवानों, वीर नारियों, पूर्व सैनिकों, रक्षा नागरिक कर्मचारियों और उनके परिवारों के प्रति गहरा आभार व्यक्त किया। उन्होंने कहा कि भारतीय सेना की वास्तविक शक्ति केवल हथियारों में नहीं बल्कि उन सैनिकों और उनके परिवारों के त्याग में निहित है, जो हर परिस्थिति में राष्ट्र की सुरक्षा को सर्वोच्च प्राथमिकता देते हैं। उन्होंने सभी से सप्त शक्ति कमांड के आदर्श वाक्य “Forever Victorious” (हमेशा विजयी) को अपने जीवन में उतारने और राष्ट्र निर्माण में सक्रिय योगदान देने का आह्वान किया।
भारतीय सेना के लिए प्रेरणा बनकर रहेगा उनका सैन्य जीवन
लगभग चार दशकों की सेवा पूरी करने के बाद लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल मंजिंदर सिंह भले ही वर्दी उतार रहे हों, लेकिन उनकी नेतृत्व शैली, सैन्य दृष्टिकोण, रणनीतिक सोच, आधुनिकीकरण की पहल और सैनिकों के प्रति समर्पण आने वाले वर्षों तक भारतीय सेना का मार्गदर्शन करते रहेंगे। उन्होंने जिस प्रकार सप्त शक्ति कमांड को आधुनिक युद्ध की आवश्यकताओं के अनुरूप तैयार किया, वह आने वाले समय में भारतीय सेना की पश्चिमी सीमाओं की सुरक्षा को और अधिक मजबूत बनाएगा।
