Lt Gen Rajesh Pushkar Appointed as New GOC-in-C of Indian Army’s Southern Command

Leadership of the Prestigious 2 Corps

Lt Gen Rajesh Pushkar also serves as the Colonel of the 74 Armoured Regiment, popularly known as the “Desert Hawks.” Raised at Ahmednagar in June 1972, the regiment has earned an enviable reputation within the Armoured Corps for its professionalism and combat readiness. Equipped with the formidable T-90 Main Battle Tanks, the Desert Hawks represent one of the Indian Army’s premier armoured fighting formations. As Colonel of the Regiment, Lt Gen Pushkar has maintained close association with one of the Army’s most respected armoured units while simultaneously holding several high-profile command appointments.
International Military Experience Strengthens Strategic Credentials

भारतीय सेना के शीर्ष नेतृत्व में एक महत्वपूर्ण बदलाव के तहत आर्मर्ड कॉर्प्स के वरिष्ठ अधिकारी लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल राजेश पुष्कर को भारतीय सेना की प्रतिष्ठित दक्षिणी कमान (Southern Command) का नया जनरल ऑफिसर कमांडिंग-इन-चीफ (GOC-in-C) नियुक्त किया गया है। वह 1 जुलाई को पुणे स्थित दक्षिणी कमान मुख्यालय में अपना कार्यभार संभालेंगे। वह लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल संदीप जैन का स्थान लेंगे, जिन्होंने अप्रैल 2026 में लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल धीरज सेठ के सेना प्रमुख बनने के बाद दक्षिणी कमान की जिम्मेदारी संभाली थी। यह नियुक्ति ऐसे समय हुई है जब भारतीय सेना भविष्य के युद्ध, थिएटर कमांड, स्वदेशी सैन्य तकनीक और संयुक्त सैन्य अभियानों की दिशा में तेजी से आगे बढ़ रही है। ऐसे दौर में एक अनुभवी और बहुआयामी सैन्य अधिकारी को इतनी महत्वपूर्ण जिम्मेदारी सौंपा जाना भारतीय सेना के नेतृत्व की दूरदर्शिता को दर्शाता है।
देश की सबसे महत्वपूर्ण सैन्य कमानों में से एक है दक्षिणी कमान
पुणे स्थित दक्षिणी कमान भारतीय सेना की सबसे पुरानी और सबसे बड़े सैन्य कमानों में गिनी जाती है। भले ही इसका अधिकांश क्षेत्र अंतरराष्ट्रीय सीमा से दूर है, लेकिन रणनीतिक दृष्टि से इसकी भूमिका अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। यही कमान सेना की रिजर्व फोर्स, बड़े सैन्य प्रशिक्षण संस्थानों, लॉजिस्टिक्स नेटवर्क, सैन्य अभ्यासों, युद्ध सामग्री के भंडारण और आवश्यकता पड़ने पर अन्य मोर्चों पर सैनिकों एवं सैन्य संसाधनों की त्वरित तैनाती का केंद्र मानी जाती है। देश में किसी भी बड़े सैन्य संकट की स्थिति में दक्षिणी कमान से बड़ी संख्या में सैनिक और सैन्य संसाधन अन्य थिएटरों में भेजे जा सकते हैं। ऐसे में इस कमान का नेतृत्व केवल अत्यधिक अनुभवी अधिकारी को ही सौंपा जाता है।
करीब 35 वर्षों का शानदार सैन्य अनुभव
लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल राजेश पुष्कर भारतीय सेना के उन चुनिंदा वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों में शामिल हैं जिन्होंने अपने लगभग 35 वर्षों के सैन्य करियर में विभिन्न प्रकार की परिचालन और रणनीतिक जिम्मेदारियां निभाई हैं। आर्मर्ड कॉर्प्स के अधिकारी के रूप में उन्होंने एक ऑपरेशनल क्षेत्र में आर्मर्ड रेजिमेंट की कमान संभाली, इसके बाद एक स्वतंत्र रणनीतिक आर्मर्ड ब्रिगेड का नेतृत्व किया। उन्होंने पश्चिमी सेक्टर में एक इन्फैंट्री डिवीजन की कमान भी संभाली, जो उनके बहुआयामी नेतृत्व और संयुक्त युद्ध संचालन की समझ को दर्शाता है। वर्तमान में वह अंबाला स्थित भारतीय सेना के प्रतिष्ठित 2 कॉर्प्स के जनरल ऑफिसर कमांडिंग के रूप में कार्यरत हैं, जहां उन्होंने जुलाई 2024 में कमान संभाली थी।
2 कॉर्प्स का नेतृत्व और पश्चिमी मोर्चे पर महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका
अंबाला स्थित 2 कॉर्प्स भारतीय सेना की सबसे महत्वपूर्ण स्ट्राइक फॉर्मेशन में से एक मानी जाती है। पश्चिमी मोर्चे पर किसी भी बड़े सैन्य अभियान में इसकी भूमिका अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण रहती है। इस कॉर्प्स के पास आधुनिक आर्मर्ड और मैकेनाइज्ड युद्ध क्षमता है तथा यह भारतीय सेना की आक्रामक सैन्य रणनीति का महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा है। लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल पुष्कर के नेतृत्व में इस कॉर्प्स ने संयुक्त सैन्य अभ्यासों, नेटवर्क आधारित युद्ध प्रणाली, आधुनिक कमांड एंड कंट्रोल और भविष्य के युद्ध की तैयारियों पर विशेष ध्यान दिया।
74 आर्मर्ड रेजिमेंट ‘डेजर्ट हॉक्स’ के कर्नल
लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल राजेश पुष्कर वर्तमान में भारतीय सेना की प्रसिद्ध 74 आर्मर्ड रेजिमेंट, जिसे “डेजर्ट हॉक्स” के नाम से जाना जाता है, के कर्नल भी हैं। यह रेजिमेंट जून 1972 में अहमदनगर में स्थापित की गई थी और वर्तमान में भारतीय सेना के अत्याधुनिक T-90 मुख्य युद्धक टैंकों से लैस है। रेगिस्तानी युद्ध क्षमता, तेज़ गतिशीलता और उच्च स्तर की युद्ध तैयारी के लिए यह रेजिमेंट आर्मर्ड कॉर्प्स में विशेष पहचान रखती है।
भूटान से लेकर मॉस्को तक निभाईं महत्वपूर्ण जिम्मेदारियां
लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल पुष्कर का अनुभव केवल भारत की सीमाओं तक सीमित नहीं रहा। उन्होंने भूटान में भारतीय सैन्य प्रशिक्षण दल (Indian Military Training Team – IMTRAT) के साथ महत्वपूर्ण जिम्मेदारी निभाई, जहां भारत और भूटान के बीच सैन्य सहयोग को मजबूत बनाने में योगदान दिया। इसके बाद उन्हें रूस की राजधानी मॉस्को स्थित भारतीय दूतावास में रक्षा अताशे (Defence Attaché) के रूप में नियुक्त किया गया। इस दौरान उन्होंने भारत-रूस रक्षा संबंधों, रक्षा सहयोग, सैन्य कूटनीति और रणनीतिक संवाद को आगे बढ़ाने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई। इसके अलावा सेना मुख्यालय में उन्होंने डायरेक्टर जनरल टेरिटोरियल आर्मी के रूप में भी कार्य किया, जहां उन्होंने देश की रिजर्व सैन्य व्यवस्था को मजबूत बनाने में योगदान दिया।
नेशनल डिफेंस अकादमी के पूर्व छात्र
लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल राजेश पुष्कर प्रतिष्ठित नेशनल डिफेंस अकादमी (NDA) के पूर्व छात्र हैं। एनडीए से निकलने वाले अधिकारी भारतीय सशस्त्र बलों के नेतृत्व की रीढ़ माने जाते हैं। अपने पूरे सैन्य करियर में उन्होंने नेतृत्व क्षमता, पेशेवर दक्षता, रणनीतिक सोच और आधुनिक सैन्य अवधारणाओं की उत्कृष्ट समझ का परिचय दिया है।
आधुनिकीकरण और भविष्य के युद्ध की चुनौतियों के बीच नई जिम्मेदारी
भारतीय सेना इस समय बड़े बदलाव के दौर से गुजर रही है। आर्टिफिशियल इंटेलिजेंस, ड्रोन युद्ध, इलेक्ट्रॉनिक वॉरफेयर, नेटवर्क-सेंट्रिक ऑपरेशन, स्वदेशी हथियार प्रणालियां और थिएटर कमांड जैसी नई अवधारणाएं सेना की कार्यशैली को बदल रही हैं। ऐसे समय में दक्षिणी कमान जैसे विशाल सैन्य संगठन का नेतृत्व ऐसे अधिकारी को सौंपा गया है जिसके पास पारंपरिक युद्ध के साथ-साथ आधुनिक सैन्य रणनीति, अंतरराष्ट्रीय सैन्य सहयोग और संयुक्त अभियानों का व्यापक अनुभव है।
शशि थरूर ने जताया गर्व
लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल राजेश पुष्कर की नियुक्ति पर सांसद शशि थरूर, जो उनके रिश्ते में बहनोई हैं, ने सोशल मीडिया पर उन्हें बधाई दी। उन्होंने लिखा कि लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल पुष्कर की सैन्य प्रतिभा, शानदार सेवा रिकॉर्ड और वर्दी के प्रति उनकी पूर्ण निष्ठा उन्हें इस महत्वपूर्ण जिम्मेदारी के लिए पूरी तरह योग्य बनाती है। उन्होंने कहा कि यह पूरे परिवार के लिए गर्व का क्षण है और देश के लिए भी आश्वस्त करने वाला अवसर है कि इतना अनुभवी अधिकारी भारतीय सेना की सबसे महत्वपूर्ण कमानों में से एक का नेतृत्व करेगा।
