Lt General Yogendra Dimri, GOC-in-C Central Command Superannuates
Lieutenant General Yogendra Dimri, Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal superannuates on 28 February, 2023 after an illustrious career spanning 40 years in the Indian Army. A visionary General and a true leader, his tenure was marked with a renewed impetus on operational effectiveness and technology infusion in Central Command. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, the General Officer was awarded the President’s Gold Medal at Indian Military Academy, Dehradun for having passed out first in the order of merit. He was commissioned into the Corps of Engineers (The Bombay Sappers) on 17 December 1983.
During his long and illustrious career, the General Officer was awarded the ‘Silver Grenade’ in the Young Officers Course and Gold Medal in the Engineers Degree Course. The General officer went on to attend various prestigious Army courses such as DSSC, Defence Services Command & Staff Course at Dhaka, Higher Command Course & National Defence College, New Delhi.The General Officer had the distinction of commanding an Assault Engineer Regiment during ‘Operation PARAKARAM’, an Engineer Brigade as part of a Strike Corps, an Infantry Brigade on the Line of Control, a Counter Insurgency Force in Jammu & Kashmir and a Strike Corps on the Western front.
The General tenanted important staff appointments of Assistant Military Secretary at Military Secretary Branch, Brigadier General Staff (Operations) of a Corps, Deputy Director General Discipline Ceremonial & Welfare at Adjutant General Branch, Deputy Director General of Military Operations, Additional Director General Discipline & Vigilance. He also served as Military Observer in UNTAC, Cambodia and as Directing Staff at Defence Service Staff College.
The General officer took over command of the Central Army on 01 April 2021. His tenure as Army Commander was marked by a renewed impetus to develop Central Command into a cohesive war-fighting team self-reliant in capability and infrastructure. This period has been a turning point in transformation of Central Command, bringing to fore the ‘Centrality of Central Command’. During his tenure, the Surya Warriors undertook successful conduct of rescue operations to evacuate mountaineers on expedition to Draupadi Ka Danda 2 and Mount Trishul in Uttarakhand. The Command was also intimately involved in various Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief operations. Popularly known as a ‘Soldiers General’, his focus on welfare of serving soldiers, Veterans, Veer Naris and their dependents received wide spread acclaim.
On the occasion of his superannuation, the General paid tribute to the bravehearts at SMRITIKA War Memorial and reviewed a Guard of Honour by the troops of Surya Command.
