In a significant development for the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), Major General Sukhbir Singh Chopra has officially assumed the appointment of Commandant, CMDC (CC) and Command Dental Advisor following his promotion. Marking the occasion, Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), congratulated the senior officer and extended her best wishes for his new leadership role.
Major General Sukhbir Singh Chopra is widely recognised as one of India’s leading military dental specialists and an eminent Orthodontist with more than three decades of distinguished service in the Indian Armed Forces. During his illustrious career spanning both the Indian Navy and the Indian Army, he has made significant contributions to military dentistry, clinical excellence, academic training and healthcare administration.
Throughout his career, Maj Gen Chopra has held several prestigious academic, clinical and administrative appointments within the Armed Forces Medical Services. His extensive experience in patient care, dental education, research and institutional leadership has earned him national recognition in the field of orthodontics. He has played a vital role in mentoring young military dental officers while contributing to the advancement of modern dental practices within the Armed Forces.
As the new Commandant of CMDC (CC) and Command Dental Advisor, Maj Gen Chopra will be responsible for overseeing specialised military dental healthcare, strengthening professional standards, guiding policy implementation and ensuring high-quality dental care for serving personnel, veterans and their families. His appointment is expected to further enhance the operational readiness of military dental services and support the overall healthcare ecosystem of the Armed Forces.
He succeeds Major General I.D. Roy, a highly respected Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, who completed a distinguished tenure marked by significant contributions to military oral healthcare, advanced surgical services and institutional development. The transition reflects the Armed Forces Medical Services’ continued emphasis on professional excellence and leadership continuity.

मेजर जनरल सुखबीर सिंह चोपड़ा देश के प्रतिष्ठित सैन्य दंत विशेषज्ञों में गिने जाते हैं। वे एक राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर प्रसिद्ध ऑर्थोडॉन्टिस्ट (Orthodontist) हैं और भारतीय सशस्त्र बलों में तीन दशकों से अधिक की उत्कृष्ट एवं विशिष्ट सेवा का अनुभव रखते हैं। अपने लंबे सैन्य करियर के दौरान उन्होंने भारतीय नौसेना और भारतीय सेना दोनों में अनेक महत्वपूर्ण जिम्मेदारियां निभाई हैं तथा सैन्य दंत चिकित्सा, चिकित्सा शिक्षा, अनुसंधान और प्रशासनिक नेतृत्व के क्षेत्र में उल्लेखनीय योगदान दिया है।
अपने कार्यकाल में उन्होंने कई महत्वपूर्ण शैक्षणिक, क्लीनिकल और प्रशासनिक पदों पर कार्य करते हुए सैन्य दंत चिकित्सा सेवाओं को नई दिशा दी। वे युवा सैन्य दंत चिकित्सकों के प्रशिक्षण, आधुनिक उपचार पद्धतियों के विकास, अनुसंधान गतिविधियों और पेशेवर उत्कृष्टता को बढ़ावा देने में भी महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाते रहे हैं। उनकी विशेषज्ञता और नेतृत्व क्षमता के कारण उन्हें राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर व्यापक सम्मान प्राप्त है।
कमांडेंट, CMDC (CC) एवं कमांड डेंटल एडवाइजर के रूप में मेजर जनरल चोपड़ा अब सैन्य दंत चिकित्सा सेवाओं के संचालन, विशेषज्ञ उपचार, नीति निर्माण, पेशेवर मानकों के उन्नयन तथा सेना, नौसेना और वायु सेना के अधिकारियों, जवानों, पूर्व सैनिकों एवं उनके परिवारों को गुणवत्तापूर्ण दंत चिकित्सा सेवाएं उपलब्ध कराने की महत्वपूर्ण जिम्मेदारी निभाएंगे। उनकी नियुक्ति से सैन्य दंत चिकित्सा सेवाओं को और अधिक आधुनिक, प्रभावी तथा सुदृढ़ बनाने की उम्मीद की जा रही है।
उन्होंने मेजर जनरल आई.डी. रॉय का स्थान लिया है, जो एक प्रतिष्ठित ओरल एवं मैक्सिलोफेशियल सर्जन रहे हैं। अपने कार्यकाल के दौरान मेजर जनरल रॉय ने सैन्य दंत चिकित्सा, जटिल मुख एवं जबड़ा शल्य चिकित्सा तथा संस्थागत विकास के क्षेत्र में उल्लेखनीय योगदान दिया। उनके नेतृत्व में कई महत्वपूर्ण पहलें सफलतापूर्वक लागू की गईं, जिससे सैन्य चिकित्सा सेवाओं को नई मजबूती मिली।
सशस्त्र बल चिकित्सा सेवा भारतीय सेना, नौसेना और वायु सेना के लिए व्यापक चिकित्सा एवं दंत चिकित्सा सेवाएं उपलब्ध कराने वाली देश की प्रमुख सैन्य स्वास्थ्य संस्था है। सैन्य दंत चिकित्सा सेवाएं जवानों की स्वास्थ्य क्षमता, परिचालन दक्षता और युद्धक तैयारियों को बनाए रखने में अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाती हैं।
