Man Trying to Cross into Pakistan Nabbed by BSF near Jaisalmer Border, Claimed He Wanted to Reach Saudi Arabia

In a fresh reminder of heightened vigilance along the India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan, the Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended a man from West Bengal who was allegedly attempting to cross into Pakistan. The incident took place near Pochina area, approximately 15 kilometers from the International Border in Jaisalmer district.

The accused has been identified as Lalchand Sheikh (30), a resident of Burdwan district in West Bengal. He was intercepted by BSF patrol teams on Wednesday evening when he was found wandering suspiciously in the restricted border zone. Upon being questioned, Sheikh failed to give satisfactory answers about his presence in the sensitive area, leading to his detention and subsequent handover to Myazlar police station for further probe.

Claimed He Wanted to Travel to Saudi Arabia via Pakistan

During interrogation, Sheikh revealed a startling claim—that he intended to travel to Saudi Arabia by first crossing into Pakistan. According to sources, his brother works as a laborer in Saudi Arabia, and Sheikh was reportedly trying to reach the Gulf nation using illegal routes. Investigators suspect, however, that there might be more to his story, especially given the recent pattern of espionage and infiltration attempts in Jaisalmer.

Authorities have confirmed that Sheikh will now be interrogated by a Joint Investigation Committee comprising multiple security and intelligence agencies. The aim is to determine whether his movement was part of a larger espionage or smuggling network, or whether he was simply misled into choosing an illegal route to reach abroad.

Border Security Tightened After Operation Sindoor

Since the commencement of Operation Sindoor, security forces deployed across the desert frontier—from Jaisalmer to Barmer and Bikaner—have maintained heightened alertness. The operation, which has reinforced integrated surveillance and patrolling systems along Rajasthan’s border with Pakistan, has led to several interceptions of infiltrators, smugglers, and suspected spies over the past few months.

The arrest of Sheikh has once again underlined the importance of proactive vigilance, as even seemingly isolated cases of illegal crossing attempts could have security ramifications, especially given Pakistan’s track record of using civilians as covers for espionage operations.

Recent Spy Arrests in Jaisalmer Region

Jaisalmer district has witnessed a worrying surge in espionage-related arrests in 2025 alone. Authorities note that at least three major cases of spying for Pakistan have been recorded this year before Sheikh’s detention:

• March 26: Ahead of the Pahalgam terror attack, Rajasthan Intelligence arrested Pathan Khan, a resident of Karamon Ki Dhani near Chandhan Field Firing Range, under the Official Secrets Act for passing sensitive information.
• May 28 – June 3: Rajasthan Intelligence detained and later arrested Shakoor Khan, a former personal assistant to ex-Congress minister Saleh Mohammad, on charges of spying for Pakistan.
• August 4: Mahendra Prasad, manager of the DRDO guest house in Jaisalmer, was caught sending confidential Indian Army information to Pakistani handlers.

The latest incident involving Sheikh, though seemingly unrelated to espionage at first glance, is being investigated under the same prism of suspicion, considering the history of Pakistan’s deep-rooted intelligence networks in the region.

Security Agencies on High Alert

Officials have stated that while Sheikh’s explanation about attempting to reach Saudi Arabia is being considered, the possibility of him being part of a bigger racket cannot be ruled out. Security agencies are thoroughly examining his background, mobile records, and contacts, with special focus on whether he had any handlers across the border.

The incident underscores the continued efforts of BSF and state intelligence agencies in preventing illegal border crossings, smuggling, and spying activities. The desert border, though challenging due to vast terrain and climatic conditions, remains one of the most tightly guarded sectors after repeated attempts by Pakistan to exploit its vulnerability.

As investigations continue, Sheikh’s arrest has once again highlighted that Rajasthan’s western frontier is not just a geographical boundary, but a frontline where India’s national security is tested every day.

पाकिस्तान जाने की कोशिश में युवक बीएसएफ के हत्थे चढ़ा, बोला- सऊदी अरब जाना चाहता था

ऑपरेशन सिंदूर के बाद से पाकिस्तान बॉर्डर पर सख्त निगरानी के बीच जैसलमेर से बड़ी खबर सामने आई है। सीमा सुरक्षा बल (BSF) ने पश्चिम बंगाल के एक युवक को हिरासत में लिया है, जो संदिग्ध हालात में बॉर्डर के करीब घूम रहा था।

आरोपी की पहचान लालचंद शेख (30) निवासी वर्धमान, पश्चिम बंगाल के रूप में हुई है। बुधवार शाम उसे अंतरराष्ट्रीय सीमा से करीब 15 किलोमीटर दूर पोछिना क्षेत्र में बीएसएफ की गश्ती टीम ने पकड़ा। पूछताछ में वह अपनी मौजूदगी का संतोषजनक कारण नहीं बता सका, जिसके बाद उसे म्याजलार पुलिस को सौंप दिया गया।

बोला- पाकिस्तान रास्ते से सऊदी जाना चाहता था

पुलिस और एजेंसियों की पूछताछ में आरोपी ने दावा किया कि वह पाकिस्तान के रास्ते सऊदी अरब जाना चाहता था। जानकारी के अनुसार उसका भाई पहले से सऊदी अरब में मजदूरी करता है। इसी कारण वह गलत रास्ता अपनाकर पाकिस्तान से होते हुए वहां जाने की कोशिश कर रहा था।

हालांकि सुरक्षा एजेंसियां उसकी इस दलील को पूरी तरह स्वीकार नहीं कर रही हैं। उसे अब संयुक्त जांच समिति (Joint Investigation Committee) के सामने पेश किया जाएगा ताकि यह पता लगाया जा सके कि कहीं वह किसी बड़े नेटवर्क का हिस्सा तो नहीं है।

ऑपरेशन सिंदूर के बाद बढ़ी सख्ती

ऑपरेशन सिंदूर के बाद से राजस्थान के जैसलमेर, बाड़मेर और बीकानेर जिले की बॉर्डर पर सुरक्षा बल चौकन्ने हैं। सीमा पार से घुसपैठ, तस्करी और जासूसी की कोशिशों को रोकने के लिए लगातार निगरानी रखी जा रही है। इसी सतर्कता का नतीजा है कि कई संदिग्धों को समय रहते पकड़ा जा सका।

जैसलमेर में बढ़े जासूसी के मामले

इस साल जैसलमेर जिले में तीन बड़े जासूसी मामलों का भंडाफोड़ हो चुका है—

• 26 मार्च: पहलगांव आतंकी हमले से पहले चांधन फील्ड फायरिंग रेंज के पास करमों की ढाणी निवासी पठान खान को ऑफिशियल सीक्रेट एक्ट में गिरफ्तार किया गया।
• 28 मई – 3 जून: कांग्रेस के पूर्व मंत्री सालेह मोहम्मद के निजी सहायक रहे शकूर खान को पाकिस्तानी खुफिया एजेंसी के लिए जासूसी करने के आरोप में गिरफ्तार किया गया।
• 4 अगस्त: जैसलमेर में डीआरडीओ गेस्ट हाउस मैनेजर महेंद्र प्रसाद को पाकिस्तानी हैंडलर को सेना की जानकारी भेजने पर पकड़ा गया।

अब लालचंद शेख की गिरफ्तारी ने सुरक्षा एजेंसियों की सतर्कता और चौकसी को एक बार फिर सही साबित कर दिया है।

सुरक्षा एजेंसियां सतर्क

अधिकारियों का कहना है कि युवक के बयान की गहराई से जांच की जा रही है। उसके मोबाइल रिकॉर्ड और संपर्कों की पड़ताल की जा रही है ताकि यह पता लगाया जा सके कि कहीं उसके पीछे कोई पाकिस्तानी नेटवर्क तो सक्रिय नहीं है।

जैसलमेर और पश्चिमी राजस्थान का रेगिस्तानी इलाका हमेशा से पाकिस्तान की खुफिया एजेंसियों की नजर में रहा है। यही कारण है कि यहां हर संदिग्ध हरकत को बेहद गंभीरता से लिया जाता है।
