Meet 8 Women Cadets Who Will Be the 1st to Pass Out from IMA Dehradun
As they begin their service, the nation watches with pride and anticipation.

On 13 June 2026, the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun will witness a defining moment in its 94-year legacy. For the first time since its establishment in 1932, a batch of women officer cadets will march out of the prestigious academy during the Spring Term Passing Out Parade and receive permanent commissions as Lieutenants in the Indian Army.
These eight pioneering women represent far more than a symbolic milestone. They embody the culmination of sustained policy reforms, institutional adaptation, and the determination of India’s first cohort of women to enter the National Defence Academy (NDA).
The Pioneering Journey
The story of these eight cadets begins in August 2022, when the NDA welcomed its first batch of women cadets following the Supreme Court’s landmark 2021 direction. Out of the women who joined the NDA’s 148th Course, 17 successfully completed their three-year training and graduated in May/June 2025.
Of these trailblazers, eight chose to serve in the Indian Army and joined the IMA in July 2025 for their final year of pre-commission training. This transition marked the first time women cadets entered the IMA through the rigorous NDA route for permanent commission in the regular Army.
Their decision to opt for the Army and undertake the demanding one-year programme at IMA underscores their commitment to the highest standards of military leadership.
Life and Training at IMA: Equal Standards, No Concessions
Since joining IMA in July 2025, these eight women have trained alongside their male counterparts in every aspect of the curriculum. There have been no separate standards or diluted physical requirements. They have participated in the same punishing schedule of drill, physical training, weapons handling, tactical exercises, field craft, leadership development, and academic instruction that defines the IMA experience.
The training at IMA is designed to forge officers capable of leading troops in the most challenging operational environments. By completing this programme without any gender-specific concessions, these cadets have demonstrated that excellence in military training is determined by merit, resilience, and dedication — qualities that transcend gender.
Their successful completion of this phase places them on equal footing with every other officer commissioned through the NDA–IMA pipeline.

The Historic Passing Out Parade – 13 June 2026
The Spring Term 2026 Passing Out Parade will be held on 13 June 2026 at the iconic Chetwode Building Drill Square. The President of India and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Smt Droupadi Murmu, will attend as the Reviewing Officer.
During the ceremony, these eight women will take the Antim Pag — the final step that symbolises the transition from cadet to commissioned officer. They will be pipped as Lieutenants and granted permanent commissions in the Indian Army, alongside their male coursemates from the 158th Regular Course and 141st Technical Graduate Course.
This moment will be watched not only by the nation but by generations of future defence aspirants who will see living proof that the path to becoming an Army officer is now open to all who meet the exacting standards.
A Milestone in Gender Integration
The commissioning of these eight officers is the latest chapter in the Indian Armed Forces’ progressive integration of women into leadership roles. Permanent commissions for women officers have expanded significantly in recent years across multiple arms and services, following judicial and policy directions.
While women have long served with distinction in the Armed Forces through the Officers Training Academy (OTA) Chennai and Short Service Commission routes, the NDA–IMA pathway represents the most comprehensive and prestigious route for those aspiring to permanent regular commissions from the outset.
These eight women will join the growing number of women officers serving in combat and combat support roles, contributing to operational effectiveness and setting an example for thousands of young women who dream of wearing the uniform.
Inspiration for Aspirants
For young women preparing for the NDA, CDS, or AFCAT examinations, the achievement of these eight cadets carries a powerful message: the standards are high, the training is demanding, and the journey is arduous — but it is achievable through consistent effort, mental toughness, and unwavering commitment.
Their story reinforces the core values that SSBCrack has always emphasised to aspirants — integrity, perseverance, leadership, and service before self. These qualities, rather than gender, remain the true determinants of success in the armed forces.
As India moves towards greater inclusivity in its military institutions, these eight women stand at the forefront of that transformation. They have not merely broken a barrier; they have set a new benchmark.
A New Chapter Begins
On 13 June 2026, when these eight officers march out of IMA Dehradun as commissioned Lieutenants, they will carry with them the pride of their families, the hopes of countless aspirants, and the responsibility of upholding the finest traditions of the Indian Army.
Their journey from NDA aspirants in 2022 to Army officers in 2026 is a testament to institutional evolution and individual excellence. It is a moment that will be remembered in the annals of Indian military history.
The Indian Army is stronger when it draws talent from the entire spectrum of Indian society. These eight women have earned their place in its officer corps through merit and endurance. As they begin their service, the nation watches with pride and anticipation.
