Over 26,000 Youths Participate in Army Recruitment Rally in Jammu and Kashmir After Five-Year Hiatus

In a significant boost to recruitment efforts, over 26,000 young aspirants participated in a recent army recruitment rally held in the border district of Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, marking the first such event in five years. This massive turnout demonstrates the enthusiasm among the youth to join the armed forces. Officials reported that nearly 40,000 candidates typically participate in army recruitment rallies across the Jammu region.

The Poonch rally began on November 8 at the Advance Landing Ground in Surankote and aims to fill 307 vacancies for soldier general duty and an additional 45 positions for clerks and tradesmen in the Territorial Army. Candidates from 31 Tehsils of Jammu division, including prominent areas like Poonch, Rajouri, Reasi, and Jammu districts, were eligible to participate in the soldier general duty positions, while applications for clerks and tradesmen were open to individuals from the entire Jammu and Kashmir region.

An official from the army recruitment office expressed satisfaction with the turnout, stating, “Over 26,000 enthusiastic candidates across the region took part in the selection process, showcasing their physical and mental readiness to serve the nation during the 10-day rally.” The recruitment drive was structured not only to provide employment opportunities but also to inspire youth to join the armies, emphasizing a commitment to a fair and transparent selection process.

Participants underwent a range of physical tests, including a 1.6 km run, chin-ups, and additional endurance exercises, followed by medical examinations and documentation checks. Out of the applicants, around 4,000 candidates successfully cleared the ground tests and will advance to the medical examination phase of the selection process.

Local residents have praised the army for organizing the recruitment rally, recognizing its potential to address unemployment in border areas and foster a sense of pride and patriotism. Prominent citizen Syed Imtiaz Kazmi remarked, “This is a significant step towards addressing unemployment in the border areas.”

The event was meticulously organized with strict adherence to safety protocols, ensuring that the large gathering proceeded smoothly. The recruitment activities are expected to continue for another three days, marking a pivotal moment in the Indian Army’s efforts to strengthen its connection with the local population.

Many young recruits have expressed hope and determination to serve the nation. Local resident Mohd Asad shared his enthusiasm, saying, “I am ready to serve the nation by joining the army.” Another aspirant, Mohd Iqbal, thanked the army for this opportunity, underscoring the aspiration among the youth to support their families while serving their country.

In a parallel initiative, a second recruitment rally is underway in Dugga, Doda district, commencing November 11, which has attracted over 12,000 eager participants as well. This rally is set for a duration of ten days and focuses on recruiting soldiers for general duty as well as clerks and tradesmen, specifically catering to residents from the districts of Reasi, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban.

Army representatives highlighted the concerted effort between military and civil administrations to facilitate the rallies, which aim to provide young individuals with avenues to contribute significantly to national defense while fulfilling their aspirations.
