जांच में सामने आया है कि शाकिर पिछले लगभग बीस दिनों से हरियाणा के नूंह जिले के रेवासन गांव में स्थित एक मस्जिद में मौलवी के रूप में रह रहा था। बताया जा रहा है कि भोपाल एटीएस को मिले कुछ महत्वपूर्ण इनपुट के बाद उसकी गतिविधियों पर नजर रखी गई और फिर स्थानीय पुलिस की सहायता से उसे हिरासत में लिया गया।

फराज की गिरफ्तारी के बाद जब उसके मोबाइल फोन, डिजिटल रिकॉर्ड और अन्य इलेक्ट्रॉनिक उपकरणों की जांच की गई तो कई नए नाम सामने आए। इन्हीं में शाकिर का नाम भी शामिल बताया जा रहा है। सुरक्षा एजेंसियों का मानना है कि फराज की गिरफ्तारी ने पूरे नेटवर्क की कई परतों को उजागर करने का काम किया है और इसी कारण जांच अब कई राज्यों तक फैल चुकी है।

फराज से पूछताछ के दौरान नईम अब्दुल्ला नामक व्यक्ति का नाम सामने आया, जिसके बाद सुरक्षा एजेंसियों ने उत्तर प्रदेश के देवबंद से उसे गिरफ्तार किया। नईम की गिरफ्तारी ने जांच को एक नया आयाम दे दिया।
