Punjabi Youth Accidentally Crosses India-Pakistan Border, Family Appeals for Help

A family from Punjab’s Ferozepur district is in deep distress after their young son, Amritpal Singh, allegedly crossed the India-Pakistan international border by mistake on June 21, 2025. Hailing from the border village of Khere Ke Uttar in Ferozepur, Amritpal’s sudden disappearance has sent shockwaves through the family and the entire village.
According to family members, 26-year-old Amritpal Singh, who is known for his simple, quiet nature, inadvertently crossed the international border separating India and Pakistan, which runs perilously close to their village. The area, like many other border villages of Punjab, is often marked by confusing terrain, broken fencing at places, and insufficient warning signage in certain patches, especially during monsoon season when visibility becomes poor and fields turn slippery.
Family’s Heartfelt Plea to the Indian and Pakistani Authorities
Speaking to reporters, Amritpal’s father, Harbhajan Singh, with tear-filled eyes, said, “My son is innocent. He does not have any bad intentions. He mistakenly crossed the border while working near the fields close to the boundary. We request the Indian Government, especially the Ministry of External Affairs, to raise this issue with Pakistan and ensure his safe and early return.”
The family also appealed to the Punjab Police and Border Security Force (BSF) to investigate the matter and coordinate with Pakistani Rangers to trace Amritpal. Local village sarpanch Baldev Singh has confirmed that Amritpal was last seen near the border area tending to his cattle before he disappeared.
Search Efforts Underway, Intelligence Agencies Alerted
Sources in the Border Security Force have acknowledged that they received an informal complaint from the family and are verifying the details. “We have informed higher authorities, and diplomatic channels will be activated through the Ministry of External Affairs if the case is confirmed,” said a BSF officer on condition of anonymity.
Intelligence agencies have also been alerted to rule out any foul play or possible detainment by Pakistani forces. In similar incidents in the past, Indian citizens, especially from border areas, have been detained by Pakistani Rangers when found on their side of the border.
Previous Incidents Highlight the Risks for Border Villagers
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred in Punjab’s border belt. Many villages like Khere Ke Uttar are located dangerously close to the India-Pakistan border, often separated by mere agricultural fields or irrigation canals. In 2023, a similar incident occurred when a young farmer from Tarn Taran district accidentally crossed the fence while chasing cattle and was taken into custody by Pakistani authorities. After weeks of diplomatic intervention, he was returned to India.
Security experts emphasize the urgent need for better fencing, clear signboards, and increased patrolling to prevent such unfortunate incidents. “The lack of proper fencing or damaged sections of the border often lead to such incidents. The villagers need to be educated and warned regularly,” said retired BSF officer Col. Baldev Singh (Retd).
Political Leaders Join the Appeal
Punjab politicians have also started voicing concern over Amritpal Singh’s disappearance. Ferozepur MLA Gurpreet Singh expressed solidarity with the family and urged both governments to act swiftly. “It is a humanitarian matter. We hope Pakistani authorities will cooperate and return Amritpal safely, and I request the Indian government to make every effort through diplomatic channels,” he said.
MEA Expected to Raise Issue Through Official Channels
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is expected to raise this matter with the Pakistani High Commission in Delhi and Indian diplomats in Islamabad if confirmation comes that Amritpal is in Pakistani custody.
While the family awaits confirmation of Amritpal’s whereabouts, they continue to live in anguish, praying for his safe return. The incident has also reignited discussions on the vulnerabilities faced by residents living in India’s sensitive border areas.

फिरोजपुर के अमृतपाल सिंह गलती से भारत-पाक सीमा पार कर गए, परिजनों ने लगाई मदद की गुहार

पंजाब के फिरोजपुर जिले के गांव ‘खेरे के उत्तर’ से एक युवक के गलती से भारत-पाकिस्तान अंतरराष्ट्रीय सीमा पार करने का मामला सामने आया है। 26 वर्षीय अमृतपाल सिंह के अचानक गायब होने से न केवल उनका परिवार बल्कि पूरा गांव सदमे में है। यह घटना 21 जून 2025 की बताई जा रही है।
परिजनों के अनुसार, अमृतपाल सिंह गांव के पास खेतों में काम कर रहे थे और गलती से अंतरराष्ट्रीय सीमा पार कर गए। यह गांव भारत-पाक सीमा के बेहद करीब बसा है, जहां कई बार बारिश या घास-झाड़ियों के कारण फेंसिंग नजर नहीं आती या रास्ता समझ नहीं आता, जिससे ऐसी घटनाएं होती हैं।
परिजनों की भावुक अपील
अमृतपाल के पिता हरभजन सिंह ने मीडिया से बात करते हुए कहा, “मेरा बेटा मासूम है। वह जानबूझकर सीमा पार नहीं गया। वह खेतों में काम कर रहा था और गलती से सीमा पार कर गया। हम भारत सरकार और विदेश मंत्रालय से अपील करते हैं कि पाकिस्तान से बात कर मेरे बेटे को सुरक्षित वापस लाया जाए।”
परिजनों ने पंजाब पुलिस और सीमा सुरक्षा बल (बीएसएफ) से भी इस मामले में तुरंत कार्रवाई कर पाकिस्तान रेंजर्स से बात करने की मांग की है। गांव के सरपंच बलदेव सिंह ने भी पुष्टि की है कि अमृतपाल को आखिरी बार सीमा के पास खेतों में मवेशियों के पास देखा गया था।
सीमा सुरक्षा बल और खुफिया एजेंसियां सतर्क
बीएसएफ अधिकारियों के अनुसार, उन्हें परिवार से इस बारे में सूचना मिली है और मामले की जांच की जा रही है। यदि पुष्टि होती है कि अमृतपाल पाकिस्तान में है, तो विदेश मंत्रालय के माध्यम से राजनयिक स्तर पर बात की जाएगी।
खुफिया एजेंसियों को भी सतर्क कर दिया गया है ताकि यह पता लगाया जा सके कि कहीं इसमें कोई साजिश या संदेहास्पद गतिविधि तो नहीं जुड़ी है।
पहले भी हो चुके हैं ऐसे कई मामले
पंजाब के सीमावर्ती इलाकों में इस तरह की घटनाएं नई नहीं हैं। खेतों के पास की सीमा रेखा कई जगह इतनी करीब है कि किसानों, चरवाहों या आम नागरिकों के लिए गलती से सीमा पार करना आम बात बन चुका है। वर्ष 2023 में तरनतारण जिले में ऐसा ही मामला सामने आया था, जहां एक किसान पशुओं को पकड़ते हुए सीमा पार कर गया था, जिसे बाद में भारतीय राजनयिक प्रयासों से वापस लाया गया।
राजनीतिक नेताओं ने भी जताई चिंता
फिरोजपुर के विधायक गुरप्रीत सिंह ने इस घटना पर चिंता जताते हुए कहा, “यह एक मानवीय मामला है। हमें उम्मीद है कि पाकिस्तान सरकार इस मामले में सहयोग करेगी और भारत सरकार राजनयिक स्तर पर पूरी कोशिश करेगी।”
राजनयिक प्रयास शुरू होने की संभावना
यदि पुष्टि होती है कि अमृतपाल पाकिस्तान में है, तो विदेश मंत्रालय दिल्ली स्थित पाक उच्चायोग और इस्लामाबाद में भारतीय उच्चायोग के माध्यम से इस मुद्दे को उठाएगा।
सीमा क्षेत्रों में जागरूकता और सुरक्षा की जरूरत
सुरक्षा विशेषज्ञों ने कहा है कि सीमा पर बेहतर फेंसिंग, चेतावनी बोर्ड और जागरूकता अभियान की आवश्यकता है ताकि इस तरह की घटनाएं रोकी जा सकें। पूर्व बीएसएफ अधिकारी कर्नल बलदेव सिंह (सेवानिवृत्त) ने कहा, “सीमा के कुछ हिस्सों में टूटी-फूटी बाड़ और खराब संकेतक इन घटनाओं के लिए जिम्मेदार हैं। प्रशासन को इस दिशा में गंभीर कदम उठाने होंगे।”
फिलहाल, अमृतपाल सिंह का परिवार उसके सुरक्षित लौटने की उम्मीद में प्रशासन और सरकार की ओर देख रहा है।
