Rajasthan Congress Leader Rameshwar Dudi Laid to Rest Amid Slogans of “Amar Rahe”
Bikaner, October 4, 2025 – The desert skies of Bikaner echoed with emotional chants of “Kisan Kesari Rameshwar Dudi Amar Rahe” as thousands gathered to bid farewell to one of Rajasthan’s tallest farmer leaders and political stalwarts. Rameshwar Dudi, popularly known as Kisan Kesari for his unwavering advocacy of farmers’ rights, passed away late Friday night around 1 AM at the age of 62 after a prolonged illness. He had been in a coma for nearly 25 months.
The news of his demise spread rapidly, plunging not only the political circles but the entire region into a state of mourning. Condolences poured in from across the spectrum — Governor Haribhau Bagde, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, and several senior leaders expressed grief at the loss of a man whose political journey was deeply intertwined with the struggles of Rajasthan’s farming community.
The Last Journey
The final rites were conducted with full honor at Dudi’s farmhouse, located about two kilometers from his native village Udayaramsar. His son, Atul Dudi, performed the last rites by lighting the pyre, bringing an emotional end to an era. Before the cremation, Dudi’s body was kept at his residence in Vaidh Magharam Colony for the public to pay their respects.
From early morning, a stream of supporters, villagers, farmers, and political colleagues thronged the residence. Floral tributes, garlands, and wreaths covered the bier, while chants of “Amar Rahe” resonated as men and women wept openly.
The funeral procession, which began from his Bikaner residence, was joined by thousands. Former CM Ashok Gehlot and Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC) chief Govind Singh Dotasra shouldered the bier, symbolizing the respect and camaraderie they shared with Dudi. The procession wound its way through crowded streets before reaching the farmhouse where a guard of honor by Seva Dal volunteers marked his final farewell. In one emotional moment, supporters used a JCB machine to shower flowers on the coffin as the cortege passed.
A Sea of Leaders in Mourning
The farewell to Rameshwar Dudi turned into a congregation of political heavyweights cutting across party lines. Prominent among those who attended were Ashok Gehlot, Govind Singh Dotasra, Minister Sumit Godara, Kisan Commission Chairman C.R. Chaudhary, Leader of Opposition Tikaram Juli, Congress veterans Hemaram Chaudhary and Harish Chaudhary, former MPs Badri Jakhar and B.D. Kalla, district leaders, and legislators from across Rajasthan.
From the BJP, Vice President Deepak Paryani and several district leaders also came forward to pay homage, reflecting how Dudi’s influence extended beyond party boundaries. National leaders and MPs such as Hanuman Beniwal were also seen at the funeral, underlining his stature in state and national politics.
At every step, slogans in his memory filled the air as supporters carried banners and portraits, celebrating not just his political career but his legacy as a people’s leader.
From NSUI to the People’s Leader
Born on 1 July 1963 in Raisar village of Nokha tehsil, Rameshwar Lal Dudi was destined to be a farmer’s voice. After completing his B.Com degree, he entered student politics through NSUI, quickly earning recognition during campus movements. His early grounding in grassroots activism shaped the trajectory of his political life.
Dudi’s first formal step into politics came as a Panchayat Samiti member in 1995, where he rose to become the Pradhan. This marked the beginning of an uninterrupted journey through various posts. His leadership qualities and ability to mobilize the rural masses saw him rise to the positions of district chief, legislator, MP, and ultimately the Leader of Opposition in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly.
Parliamentary and Legislative Journey
In 1999, at the peak of his political career, Dudi was elected as a Member of Parliament from Bikaner, defeating seasoned rivals and earning a seat in the Lok Sabha during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government. He represented the Bikaner constituency till 2004, voicing agrarian concerns and regional issues at the national stage.
He returned to state politics and in 2013 won the Nokha assembly seat, defeating his opponents and becoming a prominent face of the Congress in western Rajasthan. During Vasundhara Raje’s tenure as Chief Minister, he served as the Leader of Opposition, where he was known for his sharp interventions and aggressive advocacy of farmer-friendly policies.
Though he lost the 2018 elections to BJP’s Bihari Lal Bishnoi, his stature remained undiminished. Even during his illness, his wife Sushila Dudi carried forward his political legacy as the sitting MLA from Nokha, ensuring that the family’s deep bond with the constituency remained intact.
A Farmer’s Voice, A Businessman’s Mind
Dudi was not only a politician but also a businessman. However, it was his identity as a farmer’s leader that remained his defining feature. He consistently championed the cause of western Rajasthan’s agrarian communities, raising their voices in legislative assemblies and parliamentary sessions alike. To many in Nokha, Raisar, and surrounding regions, he was more than a leader — he was a guardian of their struggles.
Tributes Beyond Politics
The emotional scenes during his final rites demonstrated how Dudi’s appeal cut across demographics. Farmers, students, businessmen, and political workers stood side by side, mourning together. At the Dehat Congress office, Seva Dal cadres paid homage by offering a guard of honor, a gesture that visibly moved many.
Leaders like Kamal Kalla, Anil Vyas, Manoj Vyas, and dozens of Congress and social leaders attended, ensuring that the send-off matched the stature of a man who once led the opposition in the state.
A Legacy That Will Live On
As the funeral pyre turned to embers and chants of “Rameshwar Dudi Amar Rahe” continued to reverberate, it was evident that his legacy would not be confined to party lines or electoral victories. For the farmers of Rajasthan, he was a champion who gave voice to their plight; for Congress, he was a leader who held the opposition fort during testing times; and for Bikaner, he was a son of the soil who rose to national prominence yet remained deeply connected to his roots.
In the sands of Bikaner, Rameshwar Dudi’s chapter has closed, but his story as Kisan Kesari — the Lion of Farmers — will be retold in every village gathering, political rally, and farmers’ assembly for years to come.
