Shri B.P. Singh formally assumed charge as Director General of Naval Armament (DGONA) at Naval Headquarters, New Delhi, on 01 March 2026, marking a significant leadership transition within the armament vertical of the . He succeeds Shri Divakar Jayant, who superannuated on 28 February 2026 after a long and distinguished career in service of the nation. The change of guard comes at a crucial time when the Indian Navy is undergoing rapid modernisation, capability expansion and indigenisation of its weapon and ammunition ecosystem, placing the Directorate General of Naval Armament at the very heart of maritime combat readiness.

An officer of the 1994 batch of the Indian Naval Armament Service (INAS), Shri B.P. A Mechanical Engineering graduate from Bihar College of Engineering, now known as the National Institute of Technology, Patna, Shri B.P. His engineering background has enabled him to bridge the gap between design intent, operational deployment and long-term sustainment, particularly in an era where weapon platforms are becoming increasingly technology-intensive and safety-critical.

Before assuming charge as DGONA, Shri B.P. Singh was serving as Chief General Manager of the Naval Armament Depot (NAD), Mumbai, one of the most critical armament hubs of the Indian Navy.
