The 113 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) RAJPUT officially kicked off the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Territorial Army Day in Dimapur today, marking 75 years since the inception of the Territorial Army in India. The event features a series of programs aimed at community development and fostering awareness about the opportunities available within the Territorial Army.
The celebrations began with a series of informative lectures on employment opportunities within the Territorial Army, held at Pranab Vidyapith and Women’s College, Dimapur. Over 750 students participated, engaging actively in discussions about the significance of the Territorial Army and the various roles it plays in national defense and community service.
A notable highlight of the day was a Blood Donation Camp organized at the District Hospital, Dimapur. In a strong demonstration of community spirit and commitment to public health, 50 soldiers from the battalion volunteered to donate blood, emphasizing the Army’s role not just in defense but also in supporting local healthcare initiatives.
The Territorial Army was established in 1949 with the implementation of the Territorial Army Act by the constituent assembly, following India’s independence. The camp was formally inaugurated by Shri C. Rajagopalachari on 09 October 1949. Since then, every year on this date, the nation commemorates Territorial Army Day, recognizing the vital contributions of the force in times of both peace and conflict.
Colonel Arvind Sharma, commanding officer of the 113 Infantry Battalion, expressed pride in the battalion’s commitment to both national service and community welfare. “Today’s events are a testament to the symbiotic relationship between the Territorial Army and the communities we serve. We are not only soldiers; we are citizens dedicated to the welfare of our nation,” he stated.
The celebrations will continue over the coming days, including a series of cultural events and community outreach programs aimed at further strengthening the bond between the Army and local residents. The emphasis on youth engagement is crucial, as the Territorial Army seeks to attract and inspire a new generation to consider a career in this vital branch of the armed forces.
The Platinum Jubilee celebrations serve as a reminder of the Territorial Army’s legacy and its ongoing commitment to the nation, highlighting the essential role that these forces play in ensuring both national security and community support.
As the celebrations unfold, the 113 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) RAJPUT stands poised to continue its proud tradition of service, uniting the spirit of the military with the aspirations of the communities it serves.
