TRIBUTE TO BRAVEHEARTS ON VIJAY DIWAS AT JODHPUR MILITARY STATION

Jaipur, Saturday 16 Dec 2023

Vijay Diwas was observed by the Konark Corps at Jodhpur Military Station on 16 December 2023 by paying rich tributes to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the Nation in the victory over Pakistan in the 1971 War. On the occasion, a wreath was laid by Lieutenant General Mohit Malhotra, General Officer Commanding, War Veterans, and Serving Soldiers at Konark War Memorial to pay obeisance to the brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice and made the victory over Pakistan in 1971 War possible.

During the 1971 Indo-Pak war, the troops of the Konark Corps fought the glorious battles of ‘Laungewala’, ‘Parbat Ali’, ‘Chachro’ and ‘Khinsar’. The valour & indomitable courage of the troops of Konark Corps while pressing on attacks in face of heavy enemy retaliation resulted in total annihilation and capture of vast tracts of Pakistani territory in Desert Sector. As a testimony of this gallant act of our soldiers, a captured Pakistani Sherman Tank is on display at the main entrance of Jodhpur Military Station.

On 16 December 1971, the Pakistan Army, in the erstwhile East Pakistan comprising of 90,000 troops commanded by Lieutenant General AAK Niazi, laid down their arms and surrendered unconditionally before Lieutenant General Jagjit Singh Aurora of the Indian Army. This was the largest ever surrender of troops in any war which resulted in the creation of Bangladesh.

The entire Nation is proud of this momentous act of the Indian Armed Forces and Vijay Diwas (Victory Day) is celebrated on 16 December each year to commemorate this ‘Glorious Victory’.
