Vacate PoK, No Third-Party Role in Kashmir: India Issues Stern Message to Pakistan at MEA Briefing

In a strong diplomatic assertion amid rising India-Pakistan tensions post-Operation Sindoor, India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has reiterated its longstanding stance on Jammu and Kashmir. At a weekly press briefing, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal clearly stated that Pakistan must vacate Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and that no third party has any role in matters related to Jammu and Kashmir, which are strictly bilateral between India and Pakistan.
“There is only one outstanding issue between India and Pakistan — that is the illegal occupation of Indian territory by Pakistan in PoK. All matters related to Jammu & Kashmir are to be resolved bilaterally. There is no room for third-party involvement,” said Jaiswal.
Firm Rejection of International Mediation
In response to recent international commentary and Pakistan’s persistent calls for third-party intervention, Jaiswal categorically rejected the idea of mediation.
“India’s position has always been consistent. Jammu and Kashmir is an internal matter of India. Any issue arising with Pakistan in this context will be dealt with through bilateral dialogue — if and when terrorism ends. There is no scope for foreign interference,” he added.
This response is widely seen as a direct rebuttal to renewed efforts from some quarters to internationalize the Kashmir issue. The statement also coincides with unofficial reports that China attempted to bring up Jammu and Kashmir during closed-door discussions at the UN Security Council — a move New Delhi views as hostile and unfounded.
Terrorism & Treaty Suspension Linked
Jaiswal reinforced India’s position that cross-border terrorism remains the primary hurdle to peace, and hence, the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) remains suspended. The decision to pause the treaty, a rare and bold move, was announced following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 22 civilians.
“India will not restore the Indus Waters Treaty unless Pakistan irreversibly stops supporting terrorism,” Jaiswal declared, adding that evolving challenges such as climate change and technological advancement must also be considered when evaluating international agreements.
India Responds to Trump Statement
Addressing recent remarks attributed to former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding potential trade discussions with India during the height of Operation Sindoor, the MEA clarified the record.
“Between May 7 and May 10, during military escalation and subsequent ceasefire talks, senior Indian and American officials remained in contact. However, no discussion on trade took place. These were security-focused conversations,” Jaiswal explained.
The clarification comes in the wake of political statements in Washington suggesting that India might have raised market access and defence contracts as part of the backchannel dialogue.
Terrorism Response Is the New Normal
Jaiswal also responded sharply to recent comments from Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, which criticized India’s military action under Operation Sindoor.
“We have seen the remarks from Pakistan, a country that has industrialized terrorism. To believe that there will be no consequences is delusional. India’s counterterrorism responses are now the new normal. Pakistan must understand this — the sooner, the better,” said Jaiswal.

भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच हालिया सैन्य तनाव और ऑपरेशन सिंदूर के बाद, भारत ने एक बार फिर पाकिस्तान को साफ शब्दों में चेतावनी दी है। विदेश मंत्रालय के प्रवक्ता रणधीर जायसवाल ने मंगलवार को प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस में कहा कि पाकिस्तान को पीओके (पाक अधिकृत कश्मीर) खाली करना होगा और जम्मू-कश्मीर के मामलों में किसी तीसरे पक्ष की कोई भूमिका नहीं है। भारत ने दोहराया कि यह मुद्दा पूरी तरह से द्विपक्षीय है।
“भारत और पाकिस्तान के बीच केवल एक ही लंबित मुद्दा है — पाकिस्तान द्वारा अवैध रूप से कब्जाए गए भारतीय क्षेत्र की वापसी। जम्मू-कश्मीर से जुड़े सभी मुद्दों का समाधान केवल द्विपक्षीय बातचीत से ही संभव है,” जायसवाल ने कहा।
भारत ने किसी भी मध्यस्थता की संभावना को खारिज किया
जम्मू-कश्मीर को अंतरराष्ट्रीय मुद्दा बनाने की पाकिस्तान की कोशिशों पर भारत ने कड़ी प्रतिक्रिया दी। जायसवाल ने स्पष्ट किया कि भारत किसी भी तीसरे पक्ष की मध्यस्थता को सिरे से खारिज करता है।
“जम्मू-कश्मीर भारत का आंतरिक मामला है। पाकिस्तान के साथ किसी भी बातचीत की संभावना तभी बनती है जब वह आतंकवाद का समर्थन बंद करता है। तब भी यह पूरी तरह से द्विपक्षीय होगी,” उन्होंने कहा।
आतंकवाद के चलते सिंधु जल संधि स्थगित
जायसवाल ने कहा कि जब तक पाकिस्तान आतंकवाद का समर्थन बंद नहीं करता, सिंधु जल संधि स्थगित रहेगी। उन्होंने कहा कि जलवायु परिवर्तन, जनसंख्या दबाव और आधुनिक इंजीनियरिंग को भी भविष्य की जल नीतियों में ध्यान में रखा जाना चाहिए।
ट्रंप के व्यापार दावे का खंडन
7 से 10 मई के बीच भारत और अमेरिका के बीच हुई बातचीत को लेकर पूर्व अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति डोनाल्ड ट्रंप के दावों पर प्रतिक्रिया देते हुए जायसवाल ने कहा:
“इन बातचीतों में सिर्फ सैन्य स्थिति और सुरक्षा पर चर्चा हुई। व्यापार या बाज़ार पहुंच जैसे किसी मुद्दे पर कोई बात नहीं हुई।”
आतंकवाद पर भारत की प्रतिक्रिया अब न्यू नॉर्मल
पाकिस्तान विदेश मंत्रालय के ताजा बयान पर प्रतिक्रिया देते हुए जायसवाल ने कहा:
“एक ऐसा देश जिसने औद्योगिक स्तर पर आतंकवाद को बढ़ावा दिया है, उसे यह समझना होगा कि इसके परिणाम होंगे। भारत की जवाबी कार्रवाई अब न्यू नॉर्मल है। पाकिस्तान को यह जितनी जल्दी समझ आए, उतना ही अच्छा होगा।”
