Air Marshal SP Dharkar Appointed as Next Vice Chief of Air Staff

Air Marshal SP Dharkar, a seasoned fighter pilot with an illustrious career spanning over 3,600 flying hours, has been appointed as the next Vice Chief of Air Staff of the Indian Air Force. He will succeed Air Marshal AP Singh, who is set to become the Chief of Air Staff.
An alumnus of several prestigious military institutions, including the Rashtriya Indian Military College, National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College, and Air War College in the United States, Dharkar brings extensive experience and leadership skills to his new role.
Commissioned in June 1985, he has accumulated an impressive range of qualifications, including credentials as a Qualified Flying Instructor, Fighter Strike Leader, and Instrument Rating Instructor and Examiner.
Dharkar has held several critical positions throughout his career, including Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Training) at Air Headquarters and Air Defence Commander at the Eastern Air Command. Notably, he also served as the first Director General of the Defence Space Agency, highlighting his pivotal role in enhancing India’s defense capabilities in space.
For the past two years, Dharkar has successfully led the Eastern Air Command, overseeing significant advancements in operational readiness and training.
His prior command roles include leading a frontline fighter squadron and a Fighter Flying Training Establishment, further solidifying his expertise in aerial combat and strategic planning.
In addition to his operational roles, Dharkar has made significant contributions to Professional Military Education, serving as an instructor at the Defence Services Staff College and the College of Air Warfare in Secunderabad.
