PENN Trust and Guru Nanak College Launch Holistic Training Program for Women’s Self-Defense
In a significant move towards empowering women and children against sexual crimes, PENN (Protection & Empowerment of Naari) has partnered with Guru Nanak College in Velachery, Chennai. The collaboration aims to provide holistic training encompassing physical, psychological, and legal education to the girl students on campus.

This initiative, titled GNC PENN’S UDAYAL PADAI, was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M. K. Stalin, at an official function held at Guru Nanak College. The program focuses on self-defense techniques, inspired by 18th-century methods researched by V. Sriram Sharma, Mentor of UDAYAL PADAI, who has dedicated two decades to studying Queen Velu Nachiyar’s defense strategies and adapting them to contemporary needs.

Mr. Manjit Singh Nayar, the General Secretary and Correspondent of the College, has spearheaded this project, emphasizing the importance of women’s safety and providing a secure environment for students. So far, around 1,500 students have benefited from the Train the Trainers model.

Additionally, PENN Trust has recently signed an MoU with the Chennai Port Authority under a CSR project to extend psychological strength and self-defense training to women and students in North Chennai. As part of this initiative, the MANADHIL URUDHI VENDUM program has shown promising results, with participants demonstrating notable improvements in their recent board examinations.

Starting today, July 1, 2024, the PENN’s UDAYAL PADAI Workshop will run until July 5, 2024, offering self-defense training. The inaugural session featured prominent members including:

Eight well-trained students from GNC PENN’S UDAYAL PADAI are set to train 1,000 students from North Chennai Corporation higher secondary schools. These sessions will include orientation, one-on-one training, and evaluation, providing students with essential skills and knowledge for self-defense.

The program aims to empower students to take control of their safety, creating a safer society for women and children.
