Bikaner: Marking the 49th Foundation Day of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), a special motorcycle rally titled ‘Sentinels of the Sea – Sarhad Se Samundar’ is being organized. The rally commenced on January 22, 2025, from the Attari-Wagah Border and will conclude at the Gateway of India, Mumbai, on February 1, 2025, coinciding with Coast Guard Day.
The rally received a warm welcome in Bikaner, where participants arrived last evening. This morning, the Ranbankura Division of the Indian Army hosted the participants at the military area, honoring their initiative with a grand reception. A memento exchange ceremony was conducted between the officials of the Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Army, symbolizing mutual respect and collaboration. The rally was then flagged off by senior officials of the Ranbankura Division, marking its departure from Bikaner.
Objective and Message of the Rally
The ‘Sarhad Se Samundar’ rally is not only aimed at showcasing the critical role of the Indian Coast Guard in safeguarding the country’s maritime borders but also at spreading awareness about social initiatives such as ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’, ‘Environment Conservation’, and the ‘Fit India Movement’.
Speaking on the occasion, Commandant Sandeep Shukla of the Indian Coast Guard emphasized the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He highlighted that indigenous ships are being constructed at shipyards in Goa, Kochi, and Mazagon for the Coast Guard, while aircraft used by the force are being developed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.
Achievements of the Indian Coast Guard
Commandant Shukla shed light on the remarkable efforts of the Coast Guard in safeguarding India’s maritime boundaries and ensuring the safety of fishermen. He recounted an operation near the Porbandar coastline on the Indo-Pak maritime border, where the Coast Guard rescued fishermen in distress.
Highlighting the force’s efforts against narco-terrorism, Shukla stated that enhancing the fleet’s strength is pivotal. In this direction, indigenously developed fast patrol vessels ‘Adhamya’ and ‘Akshar’ have been introduced, further fortifying the Coast Guard’s operational capabilities.
Community Engagement in Bikaner
Deputy Commandant Gaurav Acharya shared details of the rally’s engagement programs in Bikaner. The participants organized interactive sessions at Apna Ghar (a home for the elderly) and the Bikaner Boys’ School. These interactions aimed to inspire the local community and promote the rally’s message of social responsibility and patriotism.
Moving Forward
The rally is set to conclude on February 1 at the iconic Gateway of India, Mumbai. Beyond strengthening the nation’s maritime security narrative, this initiative seeks to promote social awareness and highlight the importance of indigenous development in enhancing the capabilities of the Indian Coast Guard.
The rally has left a lasting impact on the people of Bikaner, igniting a sense of patriotism and social awareness. The Indian Coast Guard’s initiative is a testament to its unwavering commitment to both national security and societal well-being.
